The atmosphere

i think there are some rose tinted glasses around goodison , it’s crowd and atmospheres over the years .

Keeping in mind we were famous for fiddling the figures but I think we’ve officially averaged over 50,000 once in the grounds history . We won the league with averages around 30,000 and led into that with about 10k less.

Yeah there were some incredible atmospheres, Bayern was ridiculous, but I remember the years leading up to it the ground being relatively empty and often flat . Not to mention some of the reaction to Howard and general discontent.

Has the last 30 years had consistently good atmospheres , of course not the start of last season in particular was dire . However we haven’t won a carrot but the likes of palace and Bournemouth even the Tarkowski derby would stand up against many of the years before I sat through .

Football has changed , whether any of us like it or not but I’m not sure I’m as misty eyed over the crowds and atmospheres others seem to be . Even if I do feel that about the on pitch performances.

One reason the aways are better is because you're by different groups of people each time. When it's the same people it goes a bit stale. Always better when it was unreserved seating. We should do that here.

Unreserved seating was only a thing when you could pay on the gate. There hasn't been a match that's not been all ticket for years.

Agree, some of the atmospheres at Goodison, particularly recently towards the end of seasons when we've been fighting for safety have been fantastic. However, there have also been many many more occasions where you could hear a pin drop. Same as all stadiums in this country tbf.

The only stadiums where there is constant noise are those on the continent with ultras. However I'd like to hope that will never take on here as it's forced and cringey as anything.

Goodison was a fantastic stadia in its day - if you think it rocked sitting down - I went when average attendances were 50.000 plus - it was a bear pit of a place - when you put your hands in your pockets & could not get them out etc - I don't expect it to ever come back but with computerisation a safe amount of fans should be able to stand in comfort -

Lets face it the team that caused it all stand in the KOP end every game now !

Safety must be a priority but seats removed in a area behind each goal could be achieved in a safe manner - plus what should be out lawed is away fans pay the same as home fans for the same game .....

Awful shout that mate 😡

No argument , it’s the fact reading this thread you could think it used to be a jam packed and full on bombonera every week and let’s be honest it wasn’t .

I know everyone claims to have been at an empty ground against Coventry but I’m sure chesterfield was worse . Sitting there with no atmosphere and an attendance that is like a WSL game .

I totally agree the start of last season in particular was brutal as were some of the Walter smith years but get us beating the RS in the new ground and it’ll rock as will it if we can start to be a bit less crap than we’ve been .

I’ve seen goodison packed and rocking and I’ve seen it what at 1/6 capacity , BMD is going to be rammed regardless and it’s down to us and the side itself to get it bouncing .

Is that upper or lower that's made up of members?
Both. From the last season tickets sold it looked like about 80/85% of that stand will be members, not including the away end obviously. Every other part of the ground went to ST holders. They’ve probably held a few back in each part but that wasn’t something we were able to see.

Where you there to experience it ? It's a good shout when a game of football had access to every fan - home & away !
It was a pleasure to have access at affordable prices !
It’s the way you worded the post mate. It could be misinterpreted that you were blaming fans for Hillsborough. Obviously I know that wasn’t what you meant.

The days when you could travel away on a whim & choose what part of the ground you wanted to gather are gone - to be shoe horned into an obscure crap seating space with a poor view does not add to the atmosphere one bit - rival fans behind each away end did -

Tbh, I prefer us having both ends and having the away fans tucked away in the corner.

I was referring to the bit where you insinuated Liverpool fans caused the need for all seater stadiums mate. Hopefully it was just a poor choice of words.

You just have to look at the green brigade and the union bears up in Glasgow. Whilst they do make a noise the singing is not in tandem to what’s happening on the pitch. They have a list of songs and annoying drums they play and regardless of the atmosphere of the other fans.
