If its true its indeed a blow. That said this is my glass half full logic if he is indeed gone.
For starters we are in the midst of new car prices in the market. I think Wirtz being already agreed has maybe inflated the market, clubs are moving a little more desperate or hasty already. All that is context to an optimistic negotiation/return. Not to mention his contract ending in 27. In the life cycle of JB at Everton its hard to argue this isn't the peak his value will be with us. A year from now the one year left may affect things even if he's made improvements on the pitch . I think there's an argument his quality each matchday is maybe worth taking a dip in a return a year from now, but if the club are trying to sell at maximum value I do think it's this window.
Second factor is Tark. Say we put off another year, I do think that Tark may start to show cracks in form. Replacing both simultaneously could warrant issues. Obviously O'Brien is in the building. That's hopeful and if he enters the first 11 could learn a lot on match days from his current #6 partner. Its just to say we have a stalwart centre half in Tark. I think he is plus starter level entering next year, but we also are wise to factor that time at this level of performance is likely limited. If the club want to make another young centre back signing while his form is still assuring to both learn from/stagger as a longterm replacement it's got grounds.
Third is realistic to our next season aspirations. Lets face it PSR is still a burden were bearing, I expect some action in recruitment but not dramatic at least in elevating drastically our quality into a new conversation with our current funds. I know the stats post Moyes, but I still think this team is likely a year away from european spots and likely finishing somewhere between 8th and 13th. If that's the case do you rip the band aid off now to what's an inevitability and plan that reinvestment with an eye on europe the year after next? Again maybe not ideal but I do think its arguable and likely how we should be apporaching the market with or without Branthwaite.
I for one admit I may be underselling just how crucial our defensive line has been. Taking out one of the best CB prospects on the planet in that, it's chipping away at what's been our stalwart to safety and recent relative success from expectations. But I think we were lucky to push it off this season. Two of our top 5 players are at GK and CB still. And the sale is coming next year if not this one. The broader context is what it is.

Lol I noticed that after. That said the larger points still stand considering the other links this window.Check the date...2024...
United have allegedly ‘agreed terms’ with Branthwaite in every window for the last 2 years. It’s not an indicator of anything. It’s Everton they need to agree terms with and that’s where they’ve always fell massively short. If its true its indeed a blow. That said this is my glass half full logic if he is indeed gone.
It is a strange one. He’s bagging fir fun in a very poor league but always been a real handful and fan favourite where ever he goesFor a striker it is, plus one apparently valued at £40m, clue here Moshiri would have been all over it.![]()

We're the only club to have made a profit in transfers in each of the last 4 seasons and we're still heavily limited by PSR? Not to mention, even in Moshiri's reckless years, we didn't come close to what some clubs have spent. 77mil at our worst compared to 150m by 'kin Ipswich last season.
