2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

Leicester got 70 for Fofana and 80 for Maguire and how long ago was that? Is Branthwaite inferior to those two? Palace have rejected those types of bids for Guehi.

If a club wants him they’ll have to pay but as Moyes said they better bring a big bag of cash.

I don’t know why people think Everton let players go on the cheap.

50 mill for Stones, a record at the time for a CB I think
90 mill for Lukaku, also a record before the Neymar deal distorted the entire market that summer
Even Rooney was a record for a teenager at the time
Richarlison went for 60 mill and that was with us over a barrel for PSR

We don’t sell cheap, especially when we’re not forced to.

Our fans complained at every single one of those sales because they thought we should have got more. Brathnwaite for £70m falls into the same bracket.

Our fans will complain as they always do, but in reality it will be seen as a good price for him.

Makes you think about how much money we`ve wasted when you look at those fees that were brought in for transfers.
The window after he had left we brough in Beto and Chermiti for a combined £37m. I'd say that isn't the worst business in the world. A CF who is proving he can score goals in this division and an extremely promising younger CF, who looks a player from the cameos we've seen.

I get Spurs v us right now but surely we’re targeting challenging for Europe and that certainly means they’ll be our rivals. Does anyone realistically see them as regular CL participants / winning leagues? I certainly don’t expect them to win a league and they are not challenging the likes of City, R/S etc for marquee signings.

Run well with a stadium that will see a big uplift in income, I do expect us to close the gap alongside Villa and the skunks
If brainthwaite wants to leave his options will not be us vs spurs

That's quite some spin Ron. Perhaps you missed your vocation.

An alternative view is ....one of the most technically deficient centre forwards we've ever had and a young player who has made no impression and isn't challenging for a starting role.

The truth is probably somewhere in between but I can't in all honesty say that that was £37 million well spent.

Take your point but disagree mate.

What’s the point of our shiny new iconic stadium? To bumble along in mid-table, knowing “our place”? I hope our new owners don’t see it that way. As they apparently wanted us before Roma, hopefully they don’t.

Are Villa not our rival? I’m guessing maybe not, as they were in the Champions League quarter final a few months ago and have been consistently finishing above us over the past 4 seasons. They’ve also bought some of our best players off us, so I guess they aren’t a rival.

But it wasn’t that long ago, that if you would have suggested Villa where our rival, we would have lost our heads. We loaned them Yannick Bolasie, took Gana, and were playing Europa League whilst they were bobbing along in the Championship for 3 seasons. Definitely not a “rival” club of ours. We’ve just been through our toughest patch and didn’t spend three years out of the top flight.

You honestly don’t think Villa see Spurs as rivals? In every sense (without playing in a crap part of London) they most definitely are.

So if Villa quite rightly see Spurs as rivals, I’m baffled why we don’t.

Spot on.

Spurs v PSG in the Supercup is going to be fun.

IF TFG mean business, Brainthwaite won't be going anywhere.

Fans complain about selling players but ultimately unless you support Real Madrid every single club is a ‘selling club’.

Liverpool sold every single one of Alonso Mascherano Arbeloa Torres Meireles Benayoun Suarez Sterling Coutinho Mane Alexander Arnold in their prime to bigger clubs, yet the media don’t call them a selling club.

Brighton and Brentford Palace have a revolving door, their fans are far more used to selling players than ours are.

I think it’s because we had a period under Moyes where Baines Jagielka Cahill Coleman etc. all stayed for a long time at the club. It’s very unusual though and becoming much more so. Branthwaite will be sold, either this window or next summer. Fans just need to accept it as part of modern football now.

I agree. It's just who we sell to and to make sure that we maximise the price.

That's football.

Even mega rich Newcastle will sell Isak eventually when someone offers enough money

Torres and Meireles went to Chelsea
Sterling to City
Mane to Al Ettifaq

None of those three clubs, with respect, are bigger than the RS unfortunately

At the time they were more successful (hence why they moved). Liverpool didn’t want to sell any of them and these clubs came in with bids, the players agitated to go, Liverpool had to sell them. Same way we have to do every time we sell a player.

Mane went to Bayern as well who are bigger than Liverpool.

The only aging player PSG had was their C/H - Branthwaite would fit in that team lovely & they would pay top dollar for him - but I bet their academy is full of stars = youngsters ....

German football has dipped since then ....

Most rumours are complete nonsense. I read a few reports Tottenham are considering a bid for Branthwaite. Have a day off.

Levy is as tight as a you know what so yep it's realistic that he will suddenly bid circa £80+ million for Branthwaite!

Chelsea really like Colwill and they have invested a lot of time into him. He's a promising young left footed centre back. It doesn't really make much sense for them to buy Branners.

Utd is a non starter for so many reasons (no European football, highly unlikely they can afford him due to PSR).

Madrid just signed the young Bournemouth centre half.

Liverpool makes sense on paper but not in practice which leaves City (they have about 8 centre backs) and Newcastle (Dan Burn factor) so I see Branners staying this summer - next summer will be when it gets interesting. I think he stays with European football and moves on without it.
