2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

The goal against Bournemouth alone is probably one of our most important goals in recent history. There's a fair few influential ones in the season after, too...
So, by definition, I’m one of Everton’s best players since the premier league era began because of the significance of that goal I scored, right?

Awful. Doing better than last season by signing players I don’t personally think are the best choices is completely unacceptable.

Bit harsh. Look at him running with the ball at Fulham. Him and Ndiaye in same part of the pitch is going to be really good I think. If Tim can stay fit and play some games again you're looking at a far more energetic central midfield after about four years of all of them hardly able to move more than five yards.

This summer ultimately rests on finally sorting out the right hand side with more pace but Alcaraz is a nice start to the summer business imo given his age and experience already in europe.

Yeah, he's not great. But he's very useful to have if you're fighting to stay in this PL.

If I were Sunderland I'd be in there for him, because that young team will need the sort of experience, workmate and goals he can offer.

Signing doucoure will accelerate their relegation. Like when he was at Watford. And just like we've been in relegation battles most of his time here.
Christ you know how to scrape the bottom of that barrel dont you.
Kin awful player.

The compromise regarding the contract length is likely related to wages. At Flamengo, he was earning around £20,000 per week, if this figure is accurate ttps://www.capology.com/player/carlos-alcaraz-37590/.

The club is probably aiming to manage the wage bill in anticipation of the squad cost ratio rules being implemented over PSR. Short first contract allows him enter the contract negotiation window sooner while minimizing the club's wage impact in the short to medium term.

Problem is if turns out a top player, we'll have to sell probably next summer...2 year, even if we have an extra year optional is a poor deal especially having paid 12 millions...from a psr perspective is a horrible deal.
How is it a horrible deal from a PSR perspective?

The club have likely structured it this way to allow for flexibility around PSR. The option gives the club the ability to retain Charly, sell him for a profit, or extend amortization to reduce the annual financial burden if needed (e.g., if the club is close to the PSR threshold).

A big part of the club's recent woes had to do with overly lengthy contracts and no strategic planning to get around PSR. I bet we'll see more deals like this, at least until the financial situation is much more secure.
