Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Actually could never remember that transfer saga
He was agreed, picture taken - Brazilian international forward when that was actually amazing. Then he didn’t realise the wages were taxed, and it all fell apart. 10 times worse that the Riquelme saga (where the website updated then un-updated) imo.

I was absolutely mortified.

You may be correct, but my understanding is that a 60 million pound player on a five year contract sets the PSR books back by 12 million a year, which should be well within our affordability imo.
plus the wags that a £60m+ player would demand

I agree, if we had our pick of players I would prioritise wide forwards, then centre midfield, then fullbacks, and then a striker. I think people are missing my point, which is that we aren't Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, the rs, Tottenham, Man United, Newcastle, Aston Villa. All of those clubs currently have more to offer than us. So if we get the opportunity to sign a very good player, that isn't a goalie or a centre half, we should take it. That's how you build. Do you think when Eddie Howe took over at Newcastle he thought "you know what, if I could get a decent right back in it would transform the club"? No, he didn't but did signing Trippier show that Newcastle had changed the quality of player they were pursuing? Yes it did.
Could have just the two strikers in beto and chermitti and i would massively worry if that was the options.

If they were proven and had an established pedigree I'd rather pay £40 million for that left back than someone like Tyler Dibling, who will either be worth £50 million or £5 million after next season.

Someone like Dibling? Agreed, I don’t see the goals in his game (at this moment).

We are crying out for goals and pace in the midfield and right side, that’s just where I’d much rather prioritise the bigger purchases, is all.

If Dibling becomes an England international then where we are today, we likely arent signing him. Where we may be tomorrow, he'd cost a fortune.

If were not able to typically sign established players today, we may find that one may slip through the cracks where top sides arent interested (for whatever reason). Then we should sign them.

If there are players that the club believes will go onto become top players (Delap) then we should try for them. If there are younger players who we think will become top players (Dibling) then we should try for them.

All within the transfer budget and with clear priorities.

I reckon Dibling ends up at Spurs.

I've said before I think this is something Moshiri didn't understand. When he first came in he was really bullish about us being able to afford anyone and said we'd bid £60m for Koulibaly etc, but it became clear later he had no idea how much you have to pay players in that bracket, especially when you're trying to convince them to come to a club like us. Being able to afford the initial fees are one thing but paying their wages is a totally different issue.

Ok I’ll raise you the Muller fiasco.

Heads would have fallen off all over the forum.
I know… my flatmate also goes mental if his Fruit Corners disappear from the fridge.

Hang in.. You aren’t my flatmate are you?

In which case I still know nothing about this, and I will stick to my story about it probably being the lass you were seeing at the time who took it.
