Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's a tough balancing act though. I get the feeling that we end up with a load of intelligent players who know they are not great so end up lacking any self belief to push on.
I think your general point is spot on: players must have self-belief to be valuable anywhere. But one attribute that is much underestimated is intelligence. Sometimes, the smart move is to believe in yourself and still realise that some places are too dysfunctional for even the most confident and talented player. Delap is an interesting test case. I think only greed and hubris take him to Chelsea, and ego to United. That leaves Newcastle and Everton. Purely on current standing, Newcastle would seem the smart move to me. But then we hear rumours he wants to return to the north-west...

United it is, so.

It eclipsed all of them combined probably.

You'll come across one or two handy sides in this at the later stages, but if we were in it I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't win it as well.
Eh? With our squad ? Likes of Lazio and Betis far superior. I assume you mean in a future scenario when we're competitive across multiple comps ?

You kno we dont have any backup wingers with pace take mcneil ndiaye who will be gone for the acon. Who plays in that position, i agree we do need another lb so can fight to start
I agree, if we had our pick of players I would prioritise wide forwards, then centre midfield, then fullbacks, and then a striker. I think people are missing my point, which is that we aren't Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, the rs, Tottenham, Man United, Newcastle, Aston Villa. All of those clubs currently have more to offer than us. So if we get the opportunity to sign a very good player, that isn't a goalie or a centre half, we should take it. That's how you build. Do you think when Eddie Howe took over at Newcastle he thought "you know what, if I could get a decent right back in it would transform the club"? No, he didn't but did signing Trippier show that Newcastle had changed the quality of player they were pursuing? Yes it did.

My point wasn't that she would should prioritise a left back, as we have an ok left back who can defend quite well. My point was if we get the chance to sign an amazing player in any position, we should sign them, with the only exception probably being goalkeeper and centre half.
True, I think many would agree that a right winger would be the position of priority given how ineffective we’ve been there for year and the desperate need for more goals.

Generally, midfielders and goal scoring wingers tend to be more expensive than full backs (though we do also really need full back additions to have a balanced team).

I don’t think I’d be comfortable paying 40million for a full back at this moment in the rebuilding of the squad. I’d be much more comfortable with that going on a forward/midfielder/right winger.

If they were proven and had an established pedigree I'd rather pay £40 million for that left back than someone like Tyler Dibling, who will either be worth £50 million or £5 million after next season.

Apart from the Delap story where we made it public, my belief is that the press will be left in the dark as to our targets and will continue to make speculative links to random players such as Callum Wilson.

Expecting a few to come out of the blue.

Naturally they will link Moyes to former players he has managed and the club to washed out players they think we should be linked to.

Presume he means if we finished 7th in Prem. Any team that finishes there should be winning that.
The promised land of 7th. I think that has to be the target with next two seasons. Continuous improvement across the whole club. Definitely not out if reach with the increases to revenue off the pitch coming our way. Interesting to see how we deal with having a bit more money this turn of the handle.

Someone like Dibling? Agreed, I don’t see the goals in his game (at this moment).

We are crying out for goals and pace in the midfield and right side, that’s just where I’d much rather prioritise the bigger purchases, is all.

If we were competitive enough to qualify for it, we would be better than we are now, and other things being equal I'd expect us to be at the least very competitive in it. If we got a final against Lazio or Betis I'd take it all day.

If we were splashing out £40m I don`t think left back is where we need to spend it, since we have a vacancy at RB it might be better filling that spot.
I have a feeling Moyes will persist on starting O'Brien RB next season.keeping Branthwaithe and Tarkowski the CB pairing until O'Brien takes over from Tarki. Might bring in an up and coming RB to be back up till O'Brien moves into CB.
Would like if they brought in a more attack minded LB to rotate with Mykolenko. Play Myko against the stronger attacking sides and the new LB against the weaker defensive sides
