Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Likely timetable:
Game on Sunday
Announcements of people not getting renewed contracts Tuesday
Announcements of new contracts for 3 players dragged out over the following week.
Moyes goes on his Hols for 2 weeks
First window closes June10th - no signings
Second window opens on June 16th
Everton start inquiring, mulling and circling
New players signed in July
American tour July 26
In all seriousness, 👆 that would be quite an accurate timeline. We won`t be signing players until this set of accounts/PSR year has ended...

Player purchases will happen 1st July onwards, players joining on free will also join after that date.

Me too mate, his return has been outstanding considering his season really started at the end of Jan.
I know this is going to sound weird… forgive a couple of beers.. Beto is proper old school menace in the box. Yeah he isn’t Messi but Lineker wasn’t a great ‘footballer’ was he? Im really happy to have a goal scorer in the team, sometimes that’s worth more than an all round footballer👍 the boy is a threat and that makes US more of a threat and harder to play against. I’d definitely keep him. And before anyone pipes up, no I’m not saying he’s as good a goal scorer as Lineker either…

Agree 100% mate, good post.

I think we’re in danger of under appreciating him and not realising what we have, rough edges and all.

He has nearly hit double figures, him and Ndaiye in the league, id rather us find someone else either in our Doucoure replacement or RW who can do the same then we have 3 players hitting double figures over a season. Brighton and Brentford have both managed it this season and I think its a better way than searching for a mythical 20 goal a season man, and it will be cheaper imo.

No Beto isn’t good enough full stop. And we will see it next season. I’d sell him, though I doubt that happens, but we can’t have him as our main number 9 next season, we need a much better all round striker
All round striker.. nah. Give me a striker who puts the ball in the net full stop. As McCoist said the other night, playing against a striker with his back to goal is absolute piece of cake.. a striker who turns you and plays off the shoulder is a nightmare to defend and transforms a whole team..

Posted something similar earlier in the week mate.
Beto has 8 and Don has 3 in the league thats 11 coming from the no 9 position, i guess if you improve players around them would they get better and hit 15 from that position - not unreasonable. I still think one goes and another comes in myself.

When you analyse goals scoring in the squad, its interesting looking at positions of goals and frequency,

In the league:

No. 9: 11 gaols

Wide Left (Ily): 9 goals

Wide right (Harrison/Lindstorm): 1 goal

No. 10: McNeill/The Duke/Charly: 8.

Its clear the areas we need to improve goals scoring in the attacking unit.

You want to be scoring 60 goals with a good defence and 65 + without if you have aspirations for Europe.

Clearly at 10 and 7 we need a better return.

Im Doucoures biggest defender on here - but you cant justify 100k a week contract to someone playing at 10, at 33 and scoring 3 goals in the year.

The question we need to ask ourselves is would he or our right winger get into a top 8 side on the contract he was on - the answer is no - we move on.

Weird thing is there is a different market at the bottom, someone like Burnley and Leeds will happily give him 100k a week to try and get a foothold in the league. I guess that the profile we have been at.

7 we have been poor, Harrison has 1 assist and that it. Clearly we can improve.

Also i think two decent full back change the dynamic of the team.

Another question does someone like James Garner get into a top 8 team, again if no we need better.

Thats 6 positions without blinking we could invest and improve.

Decent fullbacks allow us to have two wide forwards who get the space to come inside & gets shots off .

For me two quality FBs are as important as a top quality Doucoure replacement and a RF/RW

I can see both sides. Beto is a threat, he’s big, quick, makes decent runs and can finish, which is all great. It’s also true that his all round game is lacking in some areas, and I do think some people either genuinely just don’t realise or else hugely underestimate how important that can be to the performance of the team as a whole. We need to find a middle ground to some extent, either through Beto significantly improving on his weaknesses or by bringing in somebody who still offers a significant goal threat but can also do the many other things that you need a striker to do in the modern game.
