Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

….outwith all the discussion about Alcaraz playing out wide or no10, I don’t see him getting into goalscoring positions much. Obviously did so at Palace but not seeing a lot of goalscoring threat from him. Runs well in possession and generally picks a decent pass to put the likes of Beto in, seems to be his strength.
This is very true, but don't you think we need to have more than one style of play, someone like Charley would change the way we play coming on after an hour or if we are chasing the game. Him and N'diaye who scare the crap out of defenses running at them with half hour to go.

Having the workhorse playing number 10 is all well and good until we need something to break down teams

Longstaff would be a far, far, far better signing that Soucek.
And yet Longstaff wouldn't score the 7 to 10 goals that Soucek gets from midfield, plus it stops him scoring against us

We have really Gana in midfield if he signs that you would say he is in the team each week, all others are squad players, that's it. We need players to replace and improve from Doucoure, replace Garner to a fill in as a squad player

Midfield although is still secondary to the forward line, only N'diaye is a starter, Beto, McNeil are squad players, Charley still hasn't signed?

On a free there surely would be worse shouts, I guess this summer the main tasks are
strengthen the squad, add depth and make it younger. Good the financial side looks better than the last 5 years.

It's challenging enough.
An older player, taking a step down competively speaking, and would want a massive wage. I don't see the motivation for players like Trossard. I can hear the "Gareth Barry" shouts but he's a rarity.

I agree that we need strengthen with younger players who have resale value.

I really think we need a recallibration of standards around here. James Rodrigues- he caused some uncomfortable moments for defenders. Kanchelskis scared the crap out of defences when he ran at them. Alcaraz may prove to be a decent player, but right now PL defenders don't wake up at 2AM having nightmares about him.

I’m not sure what wages Cherki is after but he’s the sort of player we should be throwing a high wage at, especially if a release clause saves us money on a fee.

I appreciate the chances of getting him over a champions league club are slim but we have to be trying. Get them over for a tour of the stadium, show them some videos of last Sunday and sell the future (don’t mention the possibility of lining up next to Soucek)

….i think his style better lends itself more to counter attack than ‘breaking teams down’. He’s excellent at transitioning from defence to attack, we don’t have many with that capability but I think we saw in the recent home game v Ipswich that we actually struggled to create many chances in open play with Ndiaye, Alcaraz, McNeil and Patterson starting.

Yes it's been a recurring theme for a few years now. When we're "supposed" to win a game we struggle to break teams down. Moyes was very good at beating the teams we were above in the table in his first spell, let's hope he can do it again.

Let’s be honest mate, there aren’t that many attackers these days that would give a proper defender nightmares. The time of individual flair and creative players seems a bit in the past now thanks to Pep & co because now everyone just tries to slowly build and make calculated passes.

He`d have little runs of games where he was fully fit and you`d see what a truly outstanding player he was, almost unplayable, a complete beast.

However, as you say, invariably he`d break again and that would be that for weeks if not months.

Which is why Man U let him go.

It must`ve been a joy watching him when he was fully fit before all the injuries caught up with him.
Spot on about him getting a run of games and him looking an absolutely fantastic striker - and then out again. I felt as sorry for him as I did for us losing him as well as he really seemed liked he enjoyed playing and getting out there and showing what he could do.

As just mentioned, if he could have kept fully fit for a couple of seasons, he'd be a legend at the club.

If the club's reasoned recruitment strategy is to buy someone because they've scored a couple of goals against us then we may as well cease to exist.
