I always think every team needs that sort of player. An anchor who very rarely gets any plaudits but every good team ever has had one. Longstaff would be a great little signing for us, 100%.

I’ve always been a fan of Trossard.
Would offer him a starting place at #10 if he was bored sitting on the bench at Arsenal. However, Arteta seems to be relying on him a bit more this season, and is looking at a new contract for him.

Probably would cost more than Cherki and Alcaraz together.

On a free there surely would be worse shouts, I guess this summer the main tasks are
strengthen the squad, add depth and make it younger. Good the financial side looks better than the last 5 years.

It's challenging enough.

He's by all accounts a great pro, a great person to have in the dressing room and can still do a bit-part job on the pitch.

If I was a manager of a promoted team I could justify paying him more than we were willing to.

Andy Johnson, Yakubu, Saha were decent and Beckford played his part.

Yakubu was brilliant. Saha was okay. Johnson was not very good given how much we spent (for us) on him. Beckford not bad for a free. Horrendous record for 11 and a half years in charge. Been crap at signing strikers since too.

If Saha wasn't made of balsa, he'd have been one of our best strikers ever.

If Saha wasn't made of balsa, he'd have been one of our best strikers ever.

He`d have little runs of games where he was fully fit and you`d see what a truly outstanding player he was, almost unplayable, a complete beast.

However, as you say, invariably he`d break again and that would be that for weeks if not months.

Which is why Man U let him go.

It must`ve been a joy watching him when he was fully fit before all the injuries caught up with him.
