Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Very unlikely we will have the funds to address every issue with the squad, so some players will be stop gaps\squad players on loan to tide us over to next summer.

For an effective loan financially a club generally want minimum a year of amortisation and their wages.

Anything below that you are into fixer uppers and high risk.

When we had Zouma we paid a fee of 7 mill for the season and his wages.

The market now is tapped, it’s a whole industry.

I’m not dogmatic on it, i guess I’m just highlighting it isn’t the pancea most think it will be by maxing out loans to enable progress, which we should be targeting. It will be an expensive deal for a good player for a year or a risk fixer upper.

All depends who Moyes targets and how many of our current squad go. Hopefully not too many as that will make the summer harder.

Hopefully Moyes can find some similar profile players to Charly, in terms of ability and potential, with any loans.

Angel Gomes & KWP if we could get them in that would be great.
We can't afford not to sign these 2. Our squad is paper thin and they're both available on frees and home grown players. KWP goes straight in our team at right back and Gomes and Garner are best mates so would surely work well in central midfield. Resign Gana, get an attacking left back and a goalscoring number 10 in and we'd be on our way to a decent team.

Charly actually made a difference. Scoring or assisting.

Broja, lindstrom and Harrison delivered square root of nothing.

This is the thing - arguably Mangala as well, but really if you look at it its a hit rate of 1 in 4.

We need players and you have to be pragmatic, but also think expectations need to be realistic on it.

You have to balance that on lads going - the likes of the Duke, Young and Keane have or will be celebrated going - but are you really going to bring in players on loan or frees better then them at a higher cost on loans or frees - im not so sure.

If we cannot identify a 4th choice CB to replace Keane, we might as well pack it all in.

Securing quality full-backs on both flanks should be a top priority - it's painfully clear that this is a major weakness whenever we push forward. 2 fbs who can actually overlap and be a outlet, having good FBs has been very important to successful Moyes sides in the past, that hasn't changed.

We do need to be better all around. I would suggest our poorest returns have been from loans which have been dire. I disagree that quality is scant in the loans market, I think you just have to be a bit canny.

I would hope that Moyes is far superior than his predecessor in identifying the right loan players for us - he has a fantastic track record with loan with options/obligations with us (I know it was almost a generation ago, but he has that knack still one hopes).

But 100% agree we do need to be better all over - loans in/out, purchases & contract

On the form since he’s been here Moyes has us in a European place, that’s with other managers buys and no pre-season.
Hopefully the squad has a good overhaul in the summer but it needs nowhere near as much work as people are making out.
He’s done wonders with Beto ( still not good enough for first choice) and O’Brien while still having to do his normal sessions. A pre-season will be massive for the squad.

Absolutely.

Hopefully we’re looking for a younger player to develop over time, basically what we did with Branthwaite, but if we want a stop gap then a quick glance at the free agent market shows that Ben Mee and Wily Boly are available - either of whom could comfortably replace calamity Keane and probably on far less money as well.

There’s not a universe that exists where Keane should be retained, even if he takes a huge pay cut.

Is it just possible that we don’t sign a striker?

Keep Beto and Dom and spend big on a quality, goalscoring right winger?
I would be mortified if we did, but with Moyes supposedly being a big fan of DCL, it wouldn’t surprise me, as we are likely to be priced out of most striker deals this summer with every major club needing one. Plus, Moyes is, and always has been, absolutely terrible at signing strikers.

Just have to hope DCL turns down his deal.
