Now you're changing your narrative,nowhere have I said he should be our main striker. If he's scored 10 since January what makes you think that he wouldn't have got close to 18-20 in a full season? He's shown despite his limitations he can score on a regular basis but even more importantly he didn't throw his toys out of the pram when left on the bench so would I'd imagine rotate with whoever we might sign. But back to the plot. We need a right back,another central defender,if Gana leaves another defensive midfielder, a wide player with real pace and another striker at a minimum,and the money is coming from where? I've not bothered keeping up with the clubs finances but I'd imagine sorting out Moshiri's mess and getting the stadium finished hasn't left a lot in their budget for us. But time will tell.

He’s also has no assists and created only 4 chances. He’s missed 18 big chances, so misses more than he scores. Not sure that’s going to change at 27/28. He shouldn’t be our starting number 9 next season

He was technically poor in those one-on-ones against Brentford. I always tell youngsters that goalkeepers are like Father Christmas, they invariably leave a little gift for a striker to exploit. Timing is also important. There was space in the channels down the side of the keeper but he hit it much too close.

I’m just saying his one-on-one technique isn’t great but he gets a few like the one against RS. His goal return is turning out to be decent, can’t help but like him.

Timing is very important. That’s why Saturdays goal was so good, he timed is where he took it early to surprise the goalkeeper. That and the bounce out Leno off. Strikers miss chances had have awful games. He’s the type of guy Beto where I imagine he work on aspects of his game during the close season.

Thankfully, we don’t. Marseille are obliged to give us £4m for him, so that option is now off the table.

I’d rather go and get Sandro back than have to watch Maupay be outpaced by people out for a casual stroll.

So do most strikers really.

This season:
Salah has scored 21 big chances but missed 22.
Haaland scored 18 big chances and missed 20.
Delap scored 8 big chances and missed 10.
Beto scored 7 big chances and missed 10.
Watkins scored 13 big chances and missed 26.

I’m not advocating him being our first choice, but since Moyes came in and we actually try to give him big chances, he has a decent record. A full season and I’d be confident he gets 15. But I also agree, I’d like more from his all round play.

Since the PL began (including this season), there’s only an average of 2.9 players a season that even hits 20.

we should be aiming for a striker who gets 12-15 and can hopefully develop to improve on that. But as it stands, we have a striker that can already do that which takes pressure off a younger striker coming in.

Imagine if we’d bought him in the January window and he’d had the 3-4 months that he’s just had. He’d have doubled his value already as a prolific proven PL striker with great conversion %.

He’s probably tailor made for his role as 2nd best striker in a squad, that actually gets decent runs of games and keeps the goals ticking over. He runs off hunger and desire, and also being unpredictable, awkward and very random when he does get his chance. I like him still feeling he has to prove himself, rather than being given a number 9 shirt, here or anywhere else.

He does the bit that is supposedly the hardest to coach with bizarre ease sometimes, but then will control a ball in a manner that makes Doucoure look assured.

Hard not to like him. We must be careful not to over egg it.

It just frustrates me. Like when people say we never replaced Lukaku because we never got a 20 goal striker. Well, we never had a striker in the PL who was a 20 goal a season striker before him (barring one off seasons) and we had him for what, 4 years? In none of those years did we finish top 4.

I bet if you look at the stats, the vast majority of those 2.9 strikers a season are in top 4 teams each season. We aren’t and haven’t been barring one season. Thats our aspiration, but a 20 goal a season striker isn’t going to join us until we are on the verge of that really. Or we develop one into that.

It’s why I don’t mind strikers who only score 10-12, depending on what the contribution is away from that. For example, Delap who people are clamouring for, has a goal/assist (12/2) in 11 games this season. What’s he done in the other 25 games to show his value and worth? I don’t know as I don’t watch them regularly but the games I’ve seen he has done very little. Obviously the caveat is he plays for Ipswich and is young so likely to improve which is why for me he would be a decent signing.

But this is why having a player like Beto who we know can get goals and take the pressure off is vital.

Got to keep hold of him regardless of getting another striker. Proven he can score goals for us so we need to keep them goals. Striker coming in (as people have pointed out) could be another Maupay, Sandro so we could go back to zero and chuck 10-15 goals away. Beto is our best striker now goals wise. Better than DCL and Chermitti. DCL to go, Chermitti on loan. Bring in a striker and a loanee. Problem is we have other areas that need repair also so money is going to have to be spent very wisely. DCL, Doucs, Harrison, Lindstrum and Keane off the books is just over 21m per year in wages saved that could go towards a rebuild
