2024/25 Beto

When it's done consistently even when (this season especially) you have little to no creativity from midfield it would point to that for 20 million the player is good value and worth keeping.
It's as if strikers who get double figures in just over half a season grow on trees.
you’re blinkered how many assists does he have, what else does he do for the team and don’t say he doesn’t need to if he’s scoring, that’s fine if he’s getting 30 goals
But he’s not. You need to be a lot better all round striker if you want to be successful as a team

Turns out it's only 3 other players in the entire league. He'd be the 4th top scorer over the course of the season. I know he isn't the best player, but if we bought a player who ended up as 4th top scorer, we'd all be rightly delighted.
How can he be 4th top striker, it’s a very small sample size. His fan club are happy to tell us his goals per minutes this season , what about his whole Everton career in tte prem for goals and minutes ?

Interesting that he has 25% of all our goals this year and people want to sell him!
People want to sell him so that when we re-sign Dom and he lays off a ball to Doucouré next year they can turn around to us and say "See!!! Isn't that better than a goal?!?" and they can feel comfortable believing that they truly know that footy isn't about scoring goals and winning matches but it's actually about holding on to possession in the final third, scoring no goals, and fighting relegation every year.

Is that you Sean Dyche?

Blue boy was one of the more vocal anti dychers
Fair enough. Sounded quite Dychey with the "what else does he do for the team" bit.

Honestly, if Beto did zero for the team for a full season, but bagged us 20 goals then he'd have done exactly what he's there to do. No point having a 9 who works really hard, holds the ball up, defends from the front but dosent score goals... we've had one of them the last 4 seasons! He's there to score goals as his number one job.

There are definitely 2 perfectly logical arguments here and I'm not sure why some people seem to want to act like there aren't. He has scored a decent number of goals which I think everybody understands is a good thing. He is also not a particularly well rounded footballer, with some elements of his game being well below average for this level. This is a less good thing. I don't think it's massively controversial to say that it's a bit of a quandary for the manager and the club as to what to do with him going forward, and what type of striker they think will bring the biggest benefit to the team.
