Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Working from home is definitely not a skive if you’re an honest worker. Years ago I used to work from home if I had a big piece of work that I had to concentrate on as at work we were in open plan work spaces and constant interruptions made it impossible. My son who works for the NHS in HR only goes in a couple of times per week as they have converted their offices to clinical spaces to help reduce waiting lists. You can’t have it all and these people have no idea.
This is exactly us. We had an office with three floors all to ourself. We now only have one floor. If everyone wanted to/had to work in the office there would not be room. Additionally we have recruited people from all over the country and said that all you might have to do is attend the office once a month. I have colleagues who live in Wiltshire, Huddersfield, Cumbria and Northern Ireland amongst other places.

The era of 5 days a week in the office are over and never to return. That is one of the only Covid positives.

Whenever I had a big case and needed to work uninterrupted on it I always worked from home. Like @anjelikaferrett says you can start at 5am and almost get a days work done by 10am.

That said I was also in charge of the office and good as my staff were I always noticed that they were less productive when I wasn't around.

Of course we also have to see clients and I didn't particularly like them turning up on the doorstep ( although one did once but that's a different story ).

So PSG beat Arsenal , Villa and the RS. Perhaps the PL isn't as good as it tells everyone that it is.

Our 2 remaining away games are pretty meaningless ( except for the prize money) and whilst I look forward to the end of the season and an interesting summer the only thing that matters is that we put on a show and absolutely murder Southampton and give the Old Lady a good send off.

Morning Blues. Put kay to bed hours ago then made the mistake of listening to music which I’ve said before just makes me cry looking at her empty chair. I used to sell businesses and make tens of thousands redundant, now I just cry and think about what a hard hearted barsteward I used to be. I console myself by thinking that was my job, but tbh I wish I’d just taken Kay away to live on a beach on some exotic island years ago and left it all behind…..

Hope you all get to enjoy VE day later on and remind yourselves of the sacrifices our fathers and mothers went through for our benefit. I still find it difficult imagining what they went through even though mum and dad kept telling me what life was like on a RN battleship and raising kids during the bombing of Liverpool. Forever in debt to mum and dad……

Hear Hear .The stories and film clips we have seen portray senseless mindless actions that hopefully we will not experience.Just think of E.G. Ukraine and The Middle east and the carnage that some are still suffering whilst psychopaths like Putin still dictate .

The company our daughter works for have relocated to Cambridge. Choice was commute, redundancy or work from home, she chose the latter. In her situation with two kids of school age it’s ideal but she finds it a bit lonely and would actually prefer to go in to the office, plus with no spare room her workspace is located in a corner of her kitchen/diner.

Good morning all on this sunny day here .I hope all had a peaceful night ,my heart goes out to you Pete ,how you cope is beyond me .
You all know about my son and his problems ,well he has been offered a job for an American guy to develop a game ,I didn't know but it seems if you lose your internet connection when on Chrome there is a built in game with dinosaurs you can play as you wait to be reconnected ,well this guy is launching his own browser and wants him to write a game to do a similar thing . If you understand that completely then you know more than me ! His name was put forward by the man -get this -who develpoed the like button on FB . What a world this is .
My only concern is that if it doesn't work out then what his frame of mind will be . He did work for Apple but the department closed and hen that happened they apologised and said the immortal words "We will be in touch " as you can guess that never happened and it made him disillusioned about the industry .

Being the cautious man that I am I said that he must realise that this is only an enquiry and he must treat it as just that but it is hard because he has seen a light at the end of the tunnel ,as much as I am really happy I can but hope he gets his game accepted .He has a month to produce and the first three prototypes were accepted with comments made as to how they need modifying .
It is hard to show what the game will do and at the same time not giving enough away that it would let them do it in-house but he knows what he is doing .
Have a great day all COYB

My daughter worked from home throughout Covid. The only change she’s now made is to work four days a week, taking Wednesday off but working until gone 8pm for the four days both in the office and at home. It works for her and her children, but is always on call anyway. Whether it will ever go back to pre Covid patterns god only knows…..

I hope it works out for him Blue, he sounds like a talented lad but he does need to ensure that he owns the IPR. It’s good that he was approached in the first place and I wish him all the very best…..

That is a downside - there is very little spontaneity now. You can't just turn round and talk to somebody. Fortunately after 5 years, we have adapted quite well. I think people have created their own virtual support/advice teams which bear no relation to the team they actually work in. My current team are quite chatty, we do have random non work conversations on the team chat. The previous team I was on, did not communicate at all. I could go for days without speaking to anybody.
