Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Onana was the same. Unfortunately we fell that far behind other clubs in the time he was here, it was a stepping stone to Villa.

I think Onana was really after a more glamorous club than Villa tbh, remember he was getting linked with Arsenal quite a bit ?

He`s probably viewing Villa as another stepping stone tbh, but I do get your point.

I don't mind being considered a "stepping stone".
It's much better than "pension fund" or "retirement home".

I want players with personal ambition and in a hurry with their careers. Even a single season with an impact player in the team is better than five or ten with a passenger.

Getting them in at all is the thing. It's up to the club then to grow with the player. The challenge this summer is to get those types of players, before the fee and the hype exceeds what we can match.

We'll be reflecting on a good season next year if we have a couple of players being linked with "big" clubs, the bigger the better. Bring that on please.

Since the oil money got involved in footy, every club bar Man City, Real Madrid and possibly PSG have become a stepping stone club.

If City and Real Madrid want a player, no matter who they play for, they`ll get them eventually.

Look at it this way, do you think Lukaku came here with the intention of staying for a long time or do you think he came for game time / putting himself in the shop window ?

Delap would be the exact same.

That was Samuel's point .... put him at a club like Everton for £30m and if he excels, goes to an oil club for £90m in 2 seasons
If he doesn't pull up trees, he would still be value at £30m

Onana wasn’t allowed to express himself he would be a different player under Moyes and would probably want to stay. He wanted to get away from negative football asap and I don’t blame him.

Yes and no.

A big part of him signing for us, was putting himself in the shop window.

He may have stayed a season or two longer, but he`d still have gone all the same.

This is nuts.

I agree. But ultimately it’s all about European football. If we could have got there, he probably doesn’t leave so soon. He supposedly rejected Arsenal to stay with us during relegation scrap mid season.

Haven't we always been a stepping stone? Ball, Lineker, Rooney.

The key is to make sure it's beneficial to us as well so selling when there is a fair wedge left on the contract and not end up in a Trent situation. It's why this Branthwaite contract is making me a bit edgy. I think if he isn't tied up soon, we should be looking to move him on. Maybe we already are as well seem to be getting a lot of links to CBs.

Anyway, give me Delap, Rigg and Fellows with some frees and some loans and I'll be happy.

Dont blame anyone for wanting away from Dyche, it was probably more about him than Everton itself.

We are a stepping stone like 99% of most clubs now, sadly thats the reality of modern day football.

Loyalty doesnt exist anymore, players only stay 'loyal' if the contract is right.

Look at VVD/Salah for example "It was always Liverpool, i love the club i had no intention of leaving" they only said that when they got the cash they wanted.

I watched Coventry/WBA on Friday and that Fellows isn't very quick. We are crying out for pacy wide players and he's not it. Bit like a right sided McNeil.

Ball??? He didn’t want to leave and we’d just won the title the year before. Yes Arsenal won the double
The following year, but hadn’t won the league for 18yrs or a cup for 20yrs. Arguably we were just as big as arsenal then.
