The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

People seem to have forgotten we’re a very poor team. Sure, we had a good new manager bounce - a very good one - but also one that seemed to fool many into thinking we’re any good… or in a false position.
Should have had a pen against united remember. Beto had 3 one on ones against Brentford, hit the post and had an offside goal against Liverpool. Things look so much better.

And since Bournemouth in the Cup we could also quite easily have lost every single game.
Both of these things are true to be honest. A draw has probably been a fair result in most of the last 8/9 games, they’ve kind of all been a bit 50/50 where you couldn’t argue that winning or losing was an ‘unfair’ outcome.

We're gona be a pub quiz question in years to come....

Question 23.
In 2025 Southampton were officialy the worst team ever. However they managed to beat a team twice. Who were that team?

Cheers Sean.
This happend in 74 75 season when Carlisle beat Everton 3-0 and 2-3 and we're relegated with 29 points. If we had won both games we would have won the league.

…I think Carlisle remain the only club we’ve played in the top flight and NEVER beat. I was at the Goodison game and they played some lovely stuff, they had a winger called Chris Balderstone who was terrific that day, he was also an outstanding international cricketer who went on to be a top umpire.

These are the fine margins - others will have gone our way - that every team has to deal with. I agree things look so much better, but thus far it’s only an improvement from absolutely awful to poor.

I'd say we're better than poor. Ifs and buts I know, but if we had a whole season of Moyes points per game we'd be finishing in the 50s. Which would possibly be top half. We've been competitive in every game. Even against the top two.

I personally still think we're only a really good forward or two from being a top 10 side. Unfortunately though, players like that are highly sought after and cost a bomb, so we need to be very smart, lucky or both in the market.

Remember my dad and grandad saying it was absolutely flooded with evertonians that day
Yes got the train at 4-00pm —station was packed with singing Bluenoses and on the train going there—paid at the gate early and got in and the crowd got bigger and bigger with them coming over the walls and gates—I finished on the tracks behind the goal with hundreds of other young kids—-the game started and the roars, cheering and singing got louder and louder with each goal—-four of them before half time, sadly we never scored another two or we would have been champions. Then the stampede into the pitch at the end— an older fan fan picked me up off the floor after I fell or I might have been trampled to a serious injury, we wouldn’t move ‘til Peter Farrell and the team appeared in the stand to take the roars of jubilant fans, then onto the streets and marching to the station singing all the way then waiting for the numerous trains taking us back to Liverpool and coming onto Victoria Street and marching home still singing all the way home, getting up in the morning fcku school and reading the papers, best of all we were up and Liverpool were down where they would stay for eight long happy years.” Oh what a night”

Cunha was always going to get the extra game ban. I thought he would get 2/3 extra. Him not playing might even be given freedom to other players who lets say cant express themselfs because of Cunha
I guess what i said last month maybe came true. Lets see if Cunha gets right back in the starting 11 v Spurs. 3wins and a draw without him

Have had nothing from the rm spot most of this season, massively could change this side getting some pace into the team. I still think this league is very average
