Speaking of terrible relegated teams and players, what has become of Ben Godfrey at Ipswich? Has he played a minute of football since that 6-0 defeat on his debut? I was assured he was going to go and keep them up at our expense.
Played the full match against Coventry in the FA Cup 4th round, then started against Spurs in February, had a mare against Son Heung-Min, got booked and was subbed off at half-time and hasn't made the bench since.

To be fair to van Nistelrooy he did alright at PSV and he hasn't got much to work with at Leicester but yeah he's had a shocker and it seems his heart isn't in it either
Hasn’t he just. I’ll admit to being somewhat surprised, myself. As you say, he seemed to do well enough at PSV - apparently Branners for one spoke highly of his time there and has said he learned a lot working under him.

Entirely different scenarios ofc, much lower pressure over there.

Ah, well. They say success teaches you nothing.

In the end, it's a completely different thing to manage a top 3 club in a country than a relegation candidate.

I would go as far as saying pound for pound Leicester did not do much better than Southampton. I do think they have a few players that are easily good enough for prem level.

Particularly of American owners get to the magic ownership number of 14 or 15 I think it is and then they may simply vote to shut up shop from relegation in the PL or at least reduce relegation numbers.
You need relegation to compete in Europe.

Tho I guess the Super league could be a reality if that was the case

I would say without any doubt Leicester have been the worst team in the league over the past 4/5 months, they just had a better start than Southampton.

….we were last relegated in 51-52 but came back in 53-54, fortunately I can say we’ve been top flight for all my 68 years. It’s some achievement given the turmoil of recent times.

I ‘think’ Arsenal hold the record for continuous top flight years whilst we’ve spent longer in the top flight than any other club. I’ll add Forest, Villa and Man City to your list of clubs who’ve been in lower leagues in the not too distant past, Forest and Villa being former European Cup winners.
Sorry Eggs we were relegated in 1950-51 and came up in a glorious night at Oldham in 1953-54 when most of the ground was swamped by Evertonians including a 13 year old me.
