Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Been to see it this morning and there's tons of space. There's a large utility area next to the spacious shower room. The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of space for my dining table/chairs. The living area is huge as is the bedroom which could easily double up as my study too. There is ample room for all my essential bits and pieces. The outside area that will be made available to me is very private and south facing. It is definitely happening too with the neighbours looking to exchange contracts before the end of the month and moving in by May. But it will likely be early next year before they are ready for me to join them so I'll have the rest of the year to enjoy where I am now. Win win really.

As a matter of interest did you ever have dealings with John Nott when he was Defence Secretary or was he a bit before your time? It's possible his wife may be my neighbour for a few months.
Sounds like a great move for you. It’s always wise to think 10-15 years ahead as you get older, it seems you’ll be in a locality that meets all your needs now and in the future.

Well a last minute decision has found us in Fowey having decided if I have to rest I might as well do it with a better view than Wigan. Plus it’s our wedding anniversary tomorrow (36 years, 40 since we met). There’s something magical about looking at the river/sea and I love all the boats that go past. The blue and White House is where Daphne Du Maurier lived. Happy St Patrick’s Day too for those who celebrate 💙View attachment 299283

Can't remember if I have moaned about this in here or not, so feel free to read ahead if I have:

I have had a lower back issue for a while now. First happened about this time 3 years ago, where my back went into awful spasms for a few days, and when it eventually cleared up there was a noticeable displacement of my pelvis, and bad pains down my left leg. Cleared up after a while, since when it recurred 18 months later, another 6 months after that and now there's been 3 or 4 instances in the last year alone.

Once I realised I couldn't blame it on one-off issues during or as a result of exercise I got it checked out and it seems I have 2 bulging discs in my spine that were irritating the nerves that run down the length of my left leg. Had a root nerve blocker injection yesterday and already starting to feel better, mercifully.

Sadly, though, it means an end to my burgeoning running career (far too impactful on that area of my spine) and the latest episode was caused by walking 75k+ steps in 3.5 days in Dublin last week, so need to tone that down, and all.

Looks like a pivot to yoga/pilates and calisthenics is in order!!

That's pretty much all the news that's fit to print from me, except to say that I am looking forward to Aintree in a couple of weeks and praying my suits still fit!
Oh I hope you feel better soon. Bad backs are so painful. Have you thought about swimming? Low impact, and you get support from the water.

Pure coincidence but my back has been causing me jip too ( combination of gardening and ping pong ) so I did an extra couple of sessions of back yoga over the weekend and today I was digging for 2 hours planting prairie grasses in my tropical garden.

Wouldn't say my back is perfect but not too bad.

I've been to numerous yoga teachers and even spent some time at an ashram in India. Now at the stage where I pretty much know what works for me and my own practice.

Good luck Brett

Cheers mate. Even before any of this lark I knew I had terrible range of motion through my hips in particular. Should have got onto yoga years ago, but better late than never and all that!

Hi folks. Lots to catch up on. I'm excited for Jess too @Gwladysover I love it when youngsters are fully enthused by something. Are you going to any of the performances? So glad you liked the flat @Barnfred 55 - it sounds gorgeous. Enjoy your break @Val P . I must go to Cornwall again. It's a beautiful place but it's a long way from here. Last time we went, it took 13 hours to drive! Traffic jams, roadworks.... @fandjango ,pleased you are back home. And @jazzy and @Ducans elbow I was equally delighted that the rs blew up yesterday. Quite a few of my workmates inexplicably needed emergency leave today🤣. I wonder why? Mr F is so happy and, to be fair, the absolute joy from the more conscientious colleagues who actually turned in was infectious.
Not much to tell you about. I'm going carpet shopping tomorrow after work, I bought some new garden furniture today - proper stuff, the ones with cushions. It was a real bargain so I'm well happy.
However Liverpool City Council have been absolute pains today. We have received a Council tax bill for Dad's house. This is in spite of us doing everything we were supposed to and my brother having a bill from last October when he moved out, showing zero balance. My brother rang them, they said they had asked for further information in February just gone and had emailed us both. They hadn't. They want proof that the sale went through and the names of the people who bought it. I sent them the completion statement from the solicitors and directed them to the Land Registry who will supply a copy of the transfer. Absolutely useless.
Have a pleasant night all x

Yeah, the pain doctor I am seeing did say that they’re not 100% guaranteed but would rather give that a go than go straight for surgery!

I am hoping a combo of the injection and tactical exercising to avoid undue stress on my spine will mean I don’t need anything more.

Lap of the Gods though, innit?
Apparently they either work or they don’t. Mine did and the Doc said to consider them for big days out etc as the pain was constant and brutal. Post surgery, I won’t ever be the same but I’m back playing recreational GAA, walking miles every week and life’s good.

If you can avoid surgery then do so as it’s risky. No choice for me but it’s like a lot of things I guess, you learn to adapt. Pre surgery I was in absolute misery with morphine masking the pain for me. Now, meds free and while still daily pain I refuse to let it hold me back.

The doctor suggested swimming, cycling etc. I’m gonna get the races out of the way first, because the missus would brain me if I did myself a mischief before she gets chance to get herself in the Echo, and then I will get cracking on them.

I’ve always loved the water tbf, just that usually I’d rather be floating about with a rum and coke.

Christ. Your need sounds like it was a lot greater than mine! Glad it’s all worked out for you.

It’s a challenge in itself, finding a routine I can work to and pose the lowest risk possible to my back. I’m not a proud fella so I’ll do whatever I need to, to try to maintain what fitness I have and drop a bit of timber. If it means Speedos and yoga kecks so be it. Lock up your grandmothers, IOM!

It's the same people Val and the food is superb. I can highly recommend both the bouillabaise and the seafood feast which are both great value for what you get. Sam's on the beach also has the most amazing location, but I guess it's probably the wrong time of year to go. Have a great night. Presumably you're fully recovered now.
Thank you. I’m really looking forward to it, I love seafood. Not fully recovered at all sadly, pottered all morning, slept all afternoon. I’m so frustrated that I can’t get going but it is what it is.

Looks beautiful, hopefully just what you need to put the spring back in your step.

We went to yesterday evening’s show. The whole thing was excellent, pleased to report the cartwheel routine went very well, she was still buzzing when she came out. Post show exhaustion set in soon after and she was off school today with a sore throat🤦‍♀️.
Hope you get things sorted with the council soon, these organisations are a pain in the rear end sometimes. We had no end of trouble with the Land Registry after Mum died, had to send copies of the deeds and my Dad’s death certificate from 1984, took months to sort it not made easier by my having no passport or driving licence to prove my ID.
