The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Just happy to have got rid of Dyche as by most accounts the ownership wanted to give him another month at least which would've impacted greatly on survival.

Would've been on similar points to Wolves now if he'd stayed another month. Wolves should stay up but on 23 points they're still looking over their shoulder hoping either Leicester or Ipswich don't just win a game to spark off a mini run so that's still a nervy position to be in.

Things are levelling off a bit under Moyes now which is to be expected given there isn't a huge amount of goal threats in final third and half of the attackers aren't even available currently.

It is now 16 points from Moyes first 9 games. Dyche took 17 from 19 so that bounce when he came in was huge as still wouldn't be certain of staying up even on 25 points.

Leeds under Farke will be worse than Leicester IMO.

Leeds imo with what they probably will spend in the summer will not give Farke more than ten games next season. He needs to have a significantly better start than either of the two Norwich seasons when they were already at the bottom after 5-6 matches.

Sheffield United at least this time have Wilder who knows premier league but when you look at their side the vast majority are failed prem players, had Hamza Choudhry at RB who couldn't get in mediocre Leicester teams for years, Rob Holding came on late and Kieffer Moore was unused sub so they're going to need a significant transfer window to be competitive and not sure they have the budget.

To add to all that I can't see any situation where this club is on the brink of going down with Moyes running things so I think next year will see a strong start and it will be very comfortable upper mid table.

The naive thing is the key for me.

Until promoted teams start basically employing more realistic, experienced managers, and buying more streetwise players they will keep getting relegated.

Yeah there’s always one team that bury themselves with an absolutely ridiculous managerial appointment. Leicester was the team this year. Leeds bringing in Jesse Marsch, they might have stayed up if they’d gone for Allardyce at that point. Southampton in that same season going for a complete unknown in Ruben Selles because the players liked him and he fitted some mythical methodology when they still had a chance of staying up.

We almost did it with Lampard until we found some form at the end of his first season.
