The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

I don't think that's relevant to the point at hand, they're two entirely different matters. It's something I've said for ages about managers/players/the board/other clubs etc, just criticise them for what they're doing wrong, as soon as you start just moaning about perfectly normal stuff that they're doing because you've decided not to like them the whole thing becomes a bit daft.

Of course it’s relevant, people only “decided not to like him” because he was crap at his job? If he was doing his job to a competent standard then people would’ve been more inclined to listen to what he had to say.

For what it’s worth I don’t think Moyes talks anything like the same as the defeatist waffle that the last manager used to spout.

i know, and will spend all season in the bottom half because of it, would prefer something better!

That’s more me saying that our current stadium isn’t exactly a fortress than anything else. In fact our record at Goodison in the last 3 seasons has been tragic anyway. I don’t think it’ll take us til mid January to win 3 games at the new stadium for what it’s worth.

only thing i'm worried about next season is how long it takes us to settle into the new stadium, hopefully we can hit the ground running
The last time we had someone hit the ground running it didn`t end well

That's not relevant either, it's a different point entirely? The point was that you can't give it the big 'WHY IS HE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT RELEGATION ITS SO DEFEATIST HE JUST WANTS US ALL TO BE GRATEFUL THE BIG SCOTCH EGG FRAUD' when one person says something and then say 'well he's just telling the truth, and the way the question was worded didn't give him much choice to be fair' when another one does. How well they're doing their job is completely irrelevant to how true the information is.

You’ve just left out ALL of the context though in a bizarre attempt to make it seem like Moyes and Dyche are saying the same and sharing the same mentality. Dyche was banging on about relegation in pre season after a season where we finished 12th. Moyes was brought in half way through a season specifically to drag us out of a relegation battle that Dyche had placed us and talked us into.

If Moyes starts talking about finishing 17th being the objective in the summer then you might have a point.

Not really Mike, I just said it was interesting to see how similar comments were taken differently, that set off your Dyche radar and you waded in. The context was me saying that I thought Moyes's comments were very sensible, I just also thought Dyche's often were. It wasn't an attempt to do anything, I am a big fan of David Moyes as the vaults will show a thousand times over, I have no interest in slagging him off to defend Dyche, I'm capable of not treating everything as a binary issue.

No, it wasn't that. I think you, like I missed it;

It's here, prior Man Utd I was referring to;

Ah, thanks, I read that like its a bit of kidology. By not seeing or visiting the new stadium he closes down the media putting him ahead of himself and the end of the season. It prevents "are you looking forwards to the new season and a full house at BMD?" when we've this one to see out and the summer to negotiate and a huge set of send offs for Goodison.

I can see a lot of former players getting a very slow kick about on in the summer. I can see sides queuing up to get a last hurrah at Goodison. (I have mentioned this previous re Eusebio for instance (no obviously not him as he's dead)).

The owners cut the ribbon on the new stadium anyway (will we get a fly past??).

It's not about saying we're going for the title mate.

But the club would do well to treat the word relegation like a dirty word.

For the first time since Ancelotti, we have genuine cause for optimism. Let's make sure the whole footballing world can see that.

"well, lets get to 40 points" and "im not going to the new stadium until I know we're safe".... c'mon, let's pack that in. Who does that benefit? We're not going down.
I fully agree.

We've literally been in Champions form over the last 6 matches. No need for dourness. We all know the squad is light and that this run will likely come to an end sooner rather than later, but we are in touching distance of a top half finish and if we'd not had the scotch egg's negativity who knows where we could be by now.

He only has to say that Everton need to be competing in every game and aiming to finish as high as is possible with the squad and putting the past few years behind us. That doesn't put any pressure on himself or the team and doesn't condemn us to being viewed as no marks who are overdue being relegated.

New stadium, new perceptions, make it count.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but:
  • The club hasn't officially revealed the length of Moyes's contract (correct me if I'm wrong)
  • No serious spending was conducted in January despite injuries and squad size issues
  • Moyes showed little anger at the daylight robbery he was victim of on Saturday
  • Moyes has yet to visit the new stadium
While he's probably here for the duration, the signs will have been hiding in plain sight if he does indeed depart come summer...
