VAR

So as I understand it, the penalty was given on Maguire so that’s all that was reviewable. Then they also didn’t think the shirt pulls from De Ligt rose to needing to be reviewed, even though if that was the initial reason for the penalty it wouldn’t have been overturned. What a ridiculous explanation if that’s truly what it is..

Look I'm going to have a view here that's probably different than everyone, but it needs to be said

I hate all the embellishment/diving that occurs today in all sports, not least of which is in football, which probably has the worst actors of them all

So, coming from that perspective wholistically, I can see VAR overturning this one. We can debate the merits of "if this wasn't Everton, it wouldn't have changed" etc, etc, but it's my opinion I want to see less of what Young did, because big picture it'll make the game better. If I saw a guy embellish that contact against us and a penalty was given in the 90th minute, I'd be fuming.

On this particular circumstance, two things can be true. 1) It's entirely possible that the sum total of what occurred was enough to be a penalty. It was close. The only guy that knows for sure if he was truly impeded vs dove is Young. and 2) the contact on Young didn't warrant how he fell/how he flopped.

I'd have liked to see him try to get to the ball rather than focus on winning a penalty.

basically it was a pen, theatrics or not the bottom line is it was a pen!

Sorry, have to disagree with you.

I have no issue with the way Young went down, he felt the clear contact and tried to do what every single player in his boots would have done in that moment.

Also, Not sure what you were watching but it’s clear that Young did try and get to the ball to shoot/score, but almost had his shirt ripped off his back and was impeded in doing so, which allowed de ligt to get past him - once he knew he couldn’t reach it due to the pull, it was at this point that he went down.

It’s a stonewall pen, with our without this so called embellishment, but I don’t blame Young for going down the way he did, united and RS players have been doing it for years and winning pens that really weren’t. We’ve been far too nice and accommodating of poor decisions for decades. Were gonna need to see an Everton player hospitalised before we get a penalty the way things are going, it’s ridiculous.

Instead of actually kicking off officially it would appear we’re relying on our social media team to make cleverly worded jokes about the situation instead

And then we complain people walk all over us. We are pushovers that's the reality. When it happened last year to Liverpool with the crazy var decision at spurs, they officially complained to pgmol and got an apology as well as the audio recordings they requested. It's time we stand our ground a bit more because what I am seeing from the club is borderline amateurish so far, and that includes the comments from moyes during his post match interview.

So why didn't they give a yellow for a dive if they deemed it not to be a foul ?
To be fair, that is rarely the case (and quite rightly I would say). There's a difference between a dive and making the most of something, you shouldn't be booked for going down quite easily, only for actually diving.

I'm with @Pittsburgh Footy that I don't think it's necessarily a cast iron penalty. If it hadn't been given I could understand it totally. I'm not saying i'd be happy, but I could understand it. The issue was giving it and then overturning it, I just don't think the video evidence should have been enough to see the decision overturned.

The bolded is the problem with football overall. As long as guys get rewarded, it'll continue into perpetuity

Not sure it's worked for Arsenal this season

They've had some absolutely disgusting bad decisions made against them this season that cost them games
