2024/25 Jordan Pickford

100% agree I do think its hard to rank keepers, whether its correct or not I don't know but have seen it mentioned about things like post shot expected goals/90 mins, stuff like that (think he ranks at 43 for that) I did a quick google and it comes back with that also, a few other things about save %. I totally agree and think judging keepers is tricky can depend on a few factors imo.
Quality of shots, teams they play for, all factors, I mean imagine Petr Cechs stats for that Jose team.

We have the benefit of watching the replay, it’s a great strike much more than a bad goalkeeping error. Fernandes shapes to put it the way Pickford wants to go yes he’s gambled but it’s a lovely strike Fernandes has done him look how the ball moves. Cant believe I’m seeing Pickford getting stick, he’s got about 10 own goals in hand for me the performances he’s constantly come up with in our relegation scraps never moaned I’d imagine could quite easily of got a move if he wanted one absolutely loves it here and is one of us.

I agree with this, it's the type of free kick that would make most keepers look bad. He definitely shaped like he was about to curl it over the wall then powered it through a forest of players where Pickford had no vision.

Absolutely hate Bruno, but he always bloody turns up against us..

I’ll be honest, not too many keepers get a finger on the free kick by Fernandes. Why can’t we just say he made a brilliant shot and placed it perfectly? Even the second goal was great. It is what it is. The first was awesome. The second had lots of errors that led up to it and Pickford just happened to be the last guy in a chain.

Because it wasn't a great free kick at all. Pickford has been by far the best Everton player in the last 5 years and has won us far more points than he's lost us. However he had a huge wall and a sleeper underneath which would have meant it would have needed to be perfect to go in over the wall. So all he needed to do was focus on his side so it has to be a keeper mistake there. If he stands still on his side he catches it or at worst parries to safety.

Fair point, mate. Play the odds, right. Let the wall take care of the left and Pickers covers the other side, especially top corner 💙.

One of those free kicks when you knew he was gonna score before he took it
I had a bad feeling as soon as Doucoure gave the ball away. I knew he was going to make a stupid tackle to try and make amends when he was behind the play. He then makes a stupid handball because he's worried Fernandes will score when the ball was going over the bar. Then it was obvious there were gaps in the wall, and then Pickford tried to second guess Fernandes instead of just doing the basics. Hugely frustrating and unnecessary, but predictable.

Yep not often I get that feeling that’s it’s gonna go in before he’s took it, had it a couple of times watching Bale playing for Wales.

This is microscopic analysis admittedly but do you think Fernandez spotted Pickfords slight shift to the left, or would it be bought up pre game in any tactics analysis ?

This.
Not for the first time has he second guessed his own wall placement.
You can only do so much against some free kicks.
There are just some, given the width of the goal that you couldn't reach if the kicker told you where it was going.

But if you set the wall then step a yard behind it, well you can dive but you can't fly.

You have to guard your half of the goal and trust the wall.
Pickford was not only out of position, Fernando's did him like a dinner - he was wrong footed - the only part of him that moved was his neck watching it fly past him

No they telegraphed it by putting 2 men next to the wall, they were always going to move out of the way and he was going to hit it bottom right, everyone could see it except Pickford.

Tarks had a right go at - him lining a wall up, then standing behind the wall ? - the gap was as wide as the M62 virtually passed the ball into the corner - Pickford saves us more than his errors ATM, so the free kick was a soft one - that referee gave them everything - later the VAR to rob us of a win .... did we get 5 booked in a gentle game ?
