The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Weds was a brilliant night to get right under their skin.

They will have to play on the edge and with a lack of composure to get any result against us, while coping with the pressure.

TBH, they might be top of the league, but I dont think this liverpool team - if you take Salah out of it - are as good as Everton are right now.

If Salah got an injury and missed the next derby Ild make us just favourites to win it. That shows you how bad this Liverpool team are.

It's incredible me that they'll win the league. The PL is in tatters when muck like that lot are going to win it. The worst champions in decades.

Yes, I accept that would have been the case. But the overall plan to recruit a new more dynamic manager and hand them cash to spend would still be in tact.

Now we're 'stuck with Moyes'.

I’m personally fine with being stuck with Moyes. I feel safe enough with him as manager. He doesn’t see 17th as an achievement and something to aim for. Just as he did in his first spell he’ll pick us up off the floor and leave us in a much better position than he found us.

I would be quite happy to be stuck with Moyes. We need foundations to ensure we dont end up in the same situation in future if a manager we bring in doesnt work out. We need to be in a position where finishing 10th is a disaster not 17th. Moyes will lay those foundations

The Grand Old Duke of York manager.

As said: fans will inevitably end up hating his ambitionless view of Everton.

He's already multiple times since coming back here underlined he thinks Everton are a club that wont be going anywhere fast.

We have new owners with cash and a fantastic new stadium but he'll be a massive wet blanket thrown on top of it.

Moyes has stepped in and done a job and revived his Everton credibility. He should take that and run at the end of the season because that's as good as it'll get for him.

I really think they can still bottle mate, they are entering the phase they have to handle the pressure and they have cracked before - we need Arsenal to do their bit though.

Salah is World class, but this is there "last dance" in my opinion. You cant replace players like him and they will enter a regressive cycle next season.

They will fear our game for the reasons ive said, they will have to play in a way that wont make them comfortable and that will take the game into the melting pot.

Even if they win it, like the Covid Cup, it will be known as the "Year City had a blip title.".

Mate, you lost, Your man Dyche has been shown up for the absolute disgrace and fraud that many of us knew him to be, in a matter of days.

Just stop this absolute bollox and get behind the manager, it’s mind numbingly boring you banging this broken drum.

Moyes is a different manager to the one that left us, I got that wrong and you have to.

The Arsenal challenge is very weak Imo. Liverpool even if it's close will see this through.

If City were 5 points behind them I think they'd bottle, but sadly that isn't the case.

First time round, think everyone got a bit fed up, as we were a regular 6th place team, and we all wanted to push on, and break into the CL places, and the fact that we didn’t, and he probably talked us down a bit, felt like a lack of ambition.

What I’d give for that ambition and sense of optimism now.

If he’s kept on for next season, and he was to oversee a season where we didn’t even flirt with relegation (which looks possible given how he’s started with us), that would be fantastic. Really sad to say that, but the relegation fears season after season really take it out of you. The last time we had a stress free season was Carlo.

Moyes came in first time round with expectations on the floor and was handed loads of time to have a mediocre season because we were all so relieved not to be in danger.

However the circumstance are different now: this time he's working with owners who had another manager in mind this summer but took him out of fear of relegation, and we also have a massive new stadium and expectations will be ramped up.

That's all difficult for Moyes to handle. Something will give.

Relegation shouldn't be a consideration anymore mate.

We've needed to get to Bramley Moore under new owners.

We'll invest this summer and crack on. We should have 5-7 players in contention to start the first game at Bramley Moore who aren't at the club now.

Owners need to make sure they have the right setup, including manager, to ensure that investment isn't squandered.

In my view, this summer is the most important we've had in PL era. It's a real opportunity to mould a new Everton and determine where we'll be the next 10 years.

Some circumstances are different (new owners, stadium) but my expectations have been on the floor for a few season now. We’ve all been terrified of the drop for several seasons.

Sadly, in football terms, I think Moyes has come into the club in pretty much the same state as he did first time round.

In a sense the Kenwright / Moyes years have come to fruition , the constant struggles since his departure have finally made our supporters accept that mid table mediocrity is the height of our ambitions.
It is fitting that we vacate Goodison this season because the team that enters the new bowl bears no relation to the team that took possession of Goodison.
But time moves on.
We are winning games.
And I’m enjoying going to the match again.
Even the beer tastes better!
It’s time to concentrate on giving my true home a good send off.
And there are far more important things to worry about than the fate of a once great football team.

Hope this is the case, of course. And agree 100% about the importance of this summer.

But I’m not expecting to go from fearing relegation year in, year out to be pushing into CL places next year.

It says a lot about my mental state, that a season where we’re just middling about between 8th and 12th, and we get a few great games to watch in BM would be ace from my point of view.
