We can’t address the first team and the depth in one big go, there’s just way too much. I’m happy for a slower approach. Though I’m still expecting a decent outlay with a number of players coming in, 6-8 sounds about right but possibly more.

Alcaraz obligation will probably be triggered. Questions marks around Mangala/Broja/Lindstrom. I’d much prefer we look elsewhere for value considering the figures tied to them (though would be interested to see if Lyon want to lower the price on Mangala given their situation and his injury).

Key contract extensions are a priority, smart free transfers where available eg Walker Peters/Lampty could be shrewd for both depth and immediate contribution without hurting the war chest. Actual spend needed on the key attacking areas (right wing, striker) and another CB (Keane and Holgate most likely leaving and Tarkowski not getting younger). We don’t necessarily need to go ballistic but be smart. £20m doesn’t get you a lot these days, need to find value where it is and trust Moyes to coach them right.

Hoping with the new stadium, we can be a slightly better prospect for free contracts and current players wanting to stay past their current contracts.

Better use of loan slots go without saying
Think those two are really key points. Need to be way smarter on loans, and accept that 15-20m players are pretty much the new 3-5m from Moyes last time here.

Need to utilize the multi club model also, Roma have a big squad, this season they loaned out three players who would have improved us for certain, Fe to Sunderland Abraham to Milan and Bove to Fiorentina.

Next season we need to take advantage of that

I'd be surprised if they bite at the agreed prices for Mangala and Broja (£30m a piece), they may try and renegotiate but I'd say money and efforts better spent elsewhere. I remain convinced that Broja is a talent, but is that investment worth half a Delap for example? Probably not...

Alcaraz and Lindstrom are cheaper (£15m and £20m respectively) and both represent more value; though I'd like to see some productivity from Lindstrom over the remainder of the season myself.

Alcaraz at £15m is a no-brainer however the remainder of the season pans out - he's 23 and will immediately be worth more money for resale.
I'm not sure how anyone can make that judgement as he's barely played football in two years. In my view it's irrelevant anyway, anyone spending money on Broja needs their heads examining, his body isn't up to the rigours of premier league football. Send him back to Chelsea in the summer and let him be their problem.

Besides the possibility of some new blood in really excited by the impending cull, and seeing the back of some of these overpaid wasters that have been festering and serially not bothering to perform.

6-8 new lads, and between 100-150 mill to spend if TFG are being serious about us.
Preach!

Big IF though but I hope you are right.

I know he did, but some of the prices on Championship players now are bonkers. We got briefly linked with Dan Neil of Sunderland in the recent window who is a decent midfielder who would add something to us. I wouldn't want to pay anymore than £15m max for him, maybe a little more as he is their captain (I think) but certainly not £20m+ like the daft prices we were quoted previous for the likes of average tripe like Gnonto.

Bear in mind Neil is refusing to extend his contract and had less then 18 months remaining and the price is still that high.

The going rate for a championship player with a good previous season now is 15-20m, if they light the league up you're looking at 30m.

Ok summer rebuild is obviously needed, the signs are both money and financial restraints due to regs are going to be not a restricting factor.

So poll at the top and in general what do people think the approach should be...
It will no doubt go the same way as the “January rebuild”

Though we will be forced to add free bodies to replace those whose lucrative time at the club is coming to an end.

Have friends who are Sunderland fans, they say Le Fee is levels above the Championship.

I'm not paying that for any Championship tbh its far too much, even for a standout player there is still a huge jump up to the PL and no guarantee they will succeed. Look at Alex Scott who was a standout a couple of seasons ago, even Pep was blown away by him in a cup game, went to Bournemouth for £25m struggled with the pace of things and got injured and has hardly featured since then. You look at the likes of Chris Rigg now, talked up as some kind of wonderkid yet at the moment he has fallen off a cliff with spectacular style and half the Sunderland fans want him dropped and out the team. There was talk of him being a £40m player, he is nowhere near it. I wouldn't go above probably £20m for any Championship player and it would need to be someone fairly special for that sort of money.

The only concern for me would be this suggestion that we are looking at British based players, whether that's the Championship or the PL its literally the most expensive market we can shop in. The likes of Huijsen, Kerkez, Kluivert and Semenyo were all under £20m signings, Milenkovic and Murillo less than £15m. There are players out there, we just have to go and look for them, we don't need to be spending massive fee's imo.
Think Semenyo was signed from one of the Bristol teams. I remember being told that Kluivert was sh*te when I suggested him. Imagine if we had both now. Totally agree. If other teams can sign theses relatively inexpensive gems, then I'm sure we can too. Surely that was Moyes' forte first time around...

£100-£150m they're talking.

It's like nothing has been learned. It's like no one remembers Moyes mk I. He did his best work buying overlooked players with a point to prove.

leicester signed Mahrez for £450k. These are the kinds of small layout deals we need to find. When we pay big, we lose big. Gotta get value.
This is fine as a goal - everyone loves a bargain - but you also can’t force them to appear on demand; and when we’re looking at getting 8 new guys in, the prices are probably largely going to be what they are unfortunately.

8 players at £25m a piece is £200m total + parasite costs, I mean agent fees. Then there's the wages for them all, and then renegotiating with kept staff to allow them to keep up appearances.

It aint happening.
