Next job of work will be getting points when teams have adjusted, worked out and planned to counter our new of playing.

It’s going to get tougher.
I think that's fair - Bournemouth and the derby may well bring us back down to earth a bit, but fortunately those 9 points in 17 days have given us enough of a cushion to not worry about it (and to be fair, those two games are a cup game and our game in hand in the league).

What happens after the Liverpool game will be interesting. After the Goodison derby, our next 5 games are:

Palace (A)
Man Utd (H)
Brentford (A)
Wolves (A)
West Ham (H)

We really need to get a fair few more points on the board in those fixtures because then you get into April and a hilariously tough run of 5 further games where you'd assume we are likely to see more Brighton-type set ups from us. Challenge will be, as you say, that teams will have had chance to work out what our new system is and we will have lost the element of surprise. I'd say we need another 6 or 7 points from those 5 games before April.

Yeah, we really need to still be at least 9 clear of relegation after the West Ham game.
We do still have Ipswich and Southampton at home in the last 4 games, and hopefully they will both be down by then. If we can pick up any points in April then it's a bonus.

Palace and Wolves away will be difficult, but I think 9 points should be the aim out of those fixtures. If we only lose one of those I'd be ok, any more than that I'll start to worry again.

I don't think that is true or fair.

Hw was the right manager for us in the right place at the right time.
He kept us in the Premiership with a very average squad and after having the turmoil of two points deductions.
The season before he kept us in the division when we were in free fall under FL.
Fair assessment. This season he had us performing absolutely diabolically but as you say, he fulfilled his brief in keeping us up after Lampard left and got us out of the mire when we had the points deductions.

I hope Moyes fulfils his brief of steadying the ship, getting us back on an even keel and when he goes, it's not because of a problem with him but because we are in position to have a long term manager with an ability and backing to get us competing for honours.

Palace's home record is really poor, but they have a great away record for some reason.

Brentford away is tough and you never know if United might click like they did against Liverpool.

I think I'd be pragmatic and say 6 to 7 would probably be enough from those 5 as, even though April is horrendous on paper, I wouldn't be expecting us to lose all 5 games and our run-in looks decent

Devils advocate, what if both the cup game and derby honour way, now those 5 fixtures will look amazing given we'd be bouncing into them as irons my the form team in the league...

Something almost destined that Moyes next four home games are gonna be

Bournemouth - team that beat us twice including the unbelievable collapse and the game that got Dyche the sack.

The Derby - last ever Goodison derby game which if it wasn't for the wind would hd e been under Dyche.

United - club he left us for and treated him like crap - reverse if the fixture that basically got him sacked at united.

West Ham - the club he finally won a pot at, who again treated him like crap, who he has a brilliant record against btw

Oh then into April the next up is Arsenal - the most played top flight fixture at any ground has it's final last dance... Against one of his best ever players for us

Couldn't Hollywood script this if you tried

If it was though they'd throw a cup tie in the QF v the rs at Goodison in on top followed by a cup final win.

I'm actually glad our next league game is the Derby mate, its a game that takes on a life of its own and can rebalance the quality gap and often unique set of resources required to get points. The RS fans ive talked to recently are nervous about it.

I think we will be a bit boom and bust. Think teams will work out how we are going to play and adjust accordingly, so i expect results to boom or bust or flat line. Agreed though the last three have been huge for us, i think we can see the light - personally think we need another 6 points i think 32 points (if even) sees you safe this year - but i expect we get more. Also agree on fixtures mid March beyond, id like to be all but safe by Paddy's day. That said about the touch fixture run - we said the same in Dec and did very well.

Surely the same can be said for Liverpool.

Counter the 'rabid dog' style press by playing through the lines.

Put pressure on VD; strolls around at the back like he owns the stadium.

Agreed to an extent, although weirdly us pressing high and with Beto looking to use the space in behind will work best v those teams who like to faff around trying to be pep light and the better sides who play a higher line.

Neither of those types of side are gonna abandon that philosophy and adjust to us as they are wedded to that style of play...

Actually think tactics per game and adjusting is something you rarely see dudes do now unless they are clearly outclassed playing their normal way - even then a lot don't adjust.

When i look at it mate, i think we've caught teams on the hop the last few games, theyve come expecting us to be Dyche Everton and we've adjusted it - Spurs and Brighton perhaps backed their quality, Leicester i dont think saw Beto or Garner coming. Beto hasnt been really used under Moyes and under Dyche he was used with the target man tactic - no one saw through balls coming and you couldn't have predicted we would go the sliding it in tactic, additionally we hadnt seen Garner do much of the deep lying playmaking piece up until now - to be fair he hasn't even played all season really. So an element of surprise there.

I guess we have to expect teams will adjust to that. If it was me and im the opposition, im thinking, without the ball i put one of my midfielders as a sweeper and cut out the through ball in the first phase, if not ill get my centre back to be savy to it in the second phase. What you want is for us to be hitting it long or crosses into Beto and Doucoure who cant control a football, means there chances will be low %s. While we are limited in how we can change with options of the bench at the moment.

We also move t back 5 defensively so if im attacking i can risk an extra man up and try to flood our back line and box with an extra man.

Agree many teams will back their own quality against us, but i think its going to be interesting to see how teams adjust to match us and what we do about it, because that is inevitable.

Thats the game mate, tactical battle isnt it.

Teams will adjust to us though - i guess im just flagging it and raising it as a talking point - personally often think the "new manager bounce" is sometimes just a new manager sorting out a new style and catches the opposition by surprise until teams get savvy and adjust. That's inevitable.

Perfect. I can see the final frames of the Season Review DVD as thousands of naked, blue body-painted Evertonians carry the Moyesiah from Goodison Park to Bramley Moore on a gold-leaf throne to the sounds of a marching band belting out the 12" remix of Z Cars. Let's get this done Blues!
