2024/25 David Moyes

Wonder if were getting a bit bogged down in his tendancy to play down expectations last time? Personally I always thought he did this because even our best teams in his previous era tended to do better with less pressure. There's plenty of other successful managers taken a similar approach over the years. We got better results when the team felt they were under dogs.

Now you could say that his failing was recruiting a team of players who couldn't handle pressure. That might be fair. But was that characteristic a symptom of the fact we were actively trying to recruit players who were under rated by the sky 4 (at the time) or who had slipped through the net somewhere else? Is a whole squad full of over looked, under rated gems with a rock solid John Terry sized winners egos a realistic expectation? We had some winners, but there were others in the squad who were excellent players who tended to choke or lose belief in the biggest moments.

Could he not just have been saying what he thought would get us the best results?

I'm not doubting he's a better manager obviously, but to suggest he was better for Everton based on some almost useless PPG data is just plain mental.

He finished, what, 12th? After spending £100m+? I've never understood the reverence most have for him myself.
You sure? Only signing with his finger prints on were Allen and James.
He even said Doucoure wasn’t on his radar nor Godfrey, so I doubt he had much to do with Branthwaite or Nkunku either (even if that Dutch fraud asked him to speak to Branthwaite on the blower)
Besides, I think Ancelloti let us down tbh, the drop off after Xmas was poor (as was his leniency with James) and the way he darted at the first chance with RM was even worse.

All I’m saying is I’m I think he Everton playing better than Moyes ever did, and I’d most certainly take him back over Moyes.
I’m still interested in what measurable way Moyes outperforms Ancellotti as manager of Everton

I'll just keep it simple and go with a) league positions.

Best thing about Carlo was you got to see how an undoubtedly great manager would do in a less elite environment. The answer was, not much better than everybody else! That said, I guess at the top it really is all about the fine margins.
