2024/25 David Moyes

As we've continually been so poor over the last few years, I think a lot of people have suspected Moyes would end up being the manager when we move to the new stadium. Once we started churning through bad managers and competing at the lower end of the league - basically after Ancelotti left - there's been a feeling of inevitability about it. It's very Everton.

For me, I think he needs a good first press conference. He has to get the fans on-side straight away. Address how he left previously, if not directly then indirectly, and emphasise how much the club means to him. He needs to put Everton above all other clubs. Make us feel special. We're not just a great club, we're his club. Hopefully he's at a stage in his career where he's confident enough to do that.

oh, come on lad you're embarrassing yourself here.

Go back and look through the players moyes brought in and you'll realise you're way off base on this one.

If you dont like moyes thats fine but saying he bought loads of crap players is just letting your dislike of someone cloud your judgement here.

No not at all mate. I'm saying you can't say he's a genius talent spotter without recognising all the duds. I'm seeing it's not a stand out quality as if to justify his appointment.

Even in a low block Forest tend to engage higher up the pitch than Moyes (not by much, but still). Teams that play the low block are eventually found out.

Thats how a low block works you engage high and fall back into the low block.

You apply pressure but dont engage instead try to block off passing lanes and as you fall back you allow your team enough time to transition from the attacking shape into the defensive low block.

Ancelotti used to do it at real madrid. In attack it would be a 3412 with Marcelo pushing up and ronaldo moving into the strikers position but in defence it would 4411 low block. With ronaldo and marcelow falling back into the LW and LB position respectively.

Can’t wait for his first Sky interview, in the old office, in the beige cardigan, top secret coded whiteboard magnets in the background, then we can hear about how low the club is in the league, in confidence, in fitness, in belief yadda, yadda, yadda….
Lowering the bar sufficiently so his 12th place finish this season can be seen as a great achievement.

I bet he even says he’s had to change the menu in the canteen from vindaloo and pie and chips or whatever Dyche set out.

You said you “support every single Everton manager” and queried whether other people “could say the same” recently? Quite the volte face.

I'll be supporting the objectives of the manager to win games. I wont support the character he is.

He's called me, you and everyone else who supports Everton a "disgrace".

If you wish to turn the other cheek, do so.

Are some people upset, because he left at the end of his contract, then tried to nick Fallani and Baines on the cheap? Or because they want a young progressive manager, who may or may not work out?
I think he was the best we could get for the situation we are in right now. A young manager from abroad might take 6 months to get his head around it (like the Bournemouth manager, who is great now). We don't have 6 months.

I'm sure Moyes will have us playing better football than Dyche.

I’m pretty ambivalent about it,
But the bottom line he’s the best manager we’ve had apart from Ancelotti in 20 years,
We’ve been mismanaged for decades and although it’s a fresh start, if he keeps us up it will hopefully put us on a good footing for the future,
Ideally he’ll stabilise us over 2/3 years and move upstairs to board level.
We’ve had a kick in the sack at every available opportunity on and off the park,
So i’m hoping that we’ve finally bottomed out,
The season starts now for me, 5/6 wins please.
He was a much better Everton manager than Ancelotti was mate.

He was worse than Kenwright for it mate. To be fair to Kenwright, occasionally he'd be a dreamer. Day one of Martinez he's saying "he'll get us champions league"

At Man Utd, they'd just pissed the league and he's saying a point at Newcastle would be a great result.

At Sunderland, before season started a miracle if they stay up etc.

All Moyes does is downplay expectation at every turn, then people wonder why he goes about 13 years without an away win at any traditional top 4 club.
I'm not a fan, but if we get 'Merely Competent' from both Moyes and TFG then I'll try, for the most part, to bite my tongue and I'm sure both (all?) parties will be thankful for small mercies

Moyes may or may not work out yet, he’s far from a guarantee of safety.
That said, I believe this squad whilst lacking, is capable of far more than Dyche could get out of them.
So I expect him to keep us up, but it won’t be the miracle I suspect it’s portrayed as, what bothers me is he’s regressive for the club, never mind his behaviour when he left, which is also a bone of contention for me.
Yes I wanted a progressive manager (which also comes with risks) no idea who that would be but I’m not a DoF.

what worries me is we are being shadowed owned and managed here, Kenwright wanted both Weir and Moyes back.

Who on earth is carrying out his instructions from the grave?

You can’t help but think it might actually be a sensible move when you hear Paul Merson say it’s a bad move and he can’t understand why Moyes has been appointed!
That fool thought England would win the Euros and Arsenal would win the league this season, so I’ve heard enough from him to realise he talks drivel.
