Last Film You Watched

The Holdovers - an exclusive boarding school in New England, 1971, kids and misanthropic classics teacher who can't go home for Christmas.

It's that rarest of movies, one that you fall in love with as you are watching it. Paul Giamatti headlines a cast that deliver convincing performances, from the first moment you feel like you're watching a movie from 1971 rather than just set then.

The director, Alexander Payne, has made other stuff that I enjoyed, but wouldn't necessarily watch twice - About Schmidt the one that springs to mind - but I loved this. Trademark bittersweet feel throughout, but the cast elevates it.

The Holdovers - great film with small but excellent cast. Giamatti is superb from start to finish.

A solid little film.

Past Lives - A sliding doors movie about two friends/first loves from Korea. Girl goes to New York as a kid and boy tries to reconnect years later.

Got rave reviews and Oscar noms but I was bored by how bland and dull all the actors are.

Paul Giamatti is a brilliant actor. He doesn’t get enough praise for his performances.

Who'd have thought Sky would dredge this one up?

Some famous faces make their first steps in acting in a now-typical American high school tale. Of its time and containing scenes and dialogue which, whilst probably not likely to be deemed acceptable today, remain too close to life to ignore.

Plus ca change ...
1st Watched this over 20 years ago some of the scenes and dialogue definitively wouldn’t make the Final Cut now. Especially the bathroom 😄😄
