Last Film You Watched

The Holdovers - an exclusive boarding school in New England, 1971, kids and misanthropic classics teacher who can't go home for Christmas.

It's that rarest of movies, one that you fall in love with as you are watching it. Paul Giamatti headlines a cast that deliver convincing performances, from the first moment you feel like you're watching a movie from 1971 rather than just set then.

The director, Alexander Payne, has made other stuff that I enjoyed, but wouldn't necessarily watch twice - About Schmidt the one that springs to mind - but I loved this. Trademark bittersweet feel throughout, but the cast elevates it.

so good, the deadpan humour is amazing

over the last month i've watching nearly all Aki Kaurismäki's films and his films are so darkly funny. nearly every film is the same but different. my gf goes 'oh not him again', starts to fall asleep but then she just bursts out laughing at some parts - what a guy

Here's an interesting fact that I just found out today, and one that @Nymzee will enjoy...

Peter Jackson's first choice to play Aargorn in the LOTR movies was... Nicholas Cage!

True story! You can look it up. He turned it down because it meant he'd have to spend 3 years away from home filming it.

Now that's a mind f.ck. Can you even imagine it?

'Ah ha baby... You have my sword...'

i'm not a huge Cage fan but he might have made the films more bearable

I’m really hoping this is a lie. And if it’s not a lie I’m really glad he didn’t have the nards to take the role on.

Are you kidding? There is no role to complex or impossible for the Cage! He would have acted the f out of Aragorn. 😜

Saltburn. Meh. Why they shot it in 4x3 in this day and age isn’t quite as bad a decision as Justice League but its up there.

The Marvels. Totes Fluff but I didn’t hate it. Only watched it because I aint paying 25 bucks for Napoleon on TV.

James Cameron is pretty good at this stuff. Just like the first one, this one didn't grab me for the first 20-30 minutes, but it turned out very good. Perhaps the best animations I've ever seen. Visually mindblowing. 7/10
