Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Sounds like a lovely evening. We were going to get a takeaway but daughter and I went to Costco instead and bought lots of goodies from there which we are grazing on as we speak. We also somehow, ( think pressure from daughter who at the age of 26 played the youngest child card) bought a load of fireworks to set off at midnight. I've noticed Rick Astley is on BBC1 so I might watch hime instead of Jools. He's much underrated and has a fabulous voice. I've made a few mojitos and they are going down very nicely.

Cheers Fred, I hope 2024 is a good one for you. x
Cheers Anj. Same to you and a wedding to look forward to too (is it 2024? It was such a secret I erased it from my mind😀).

Thought about Rick. May switch between the two. I think Rod's on Jools.

What have you all got planned for this evening? I'm having a gourmet night of good food and fine beverages. Kicking off with my fave Spingo ale which I'll consume whilst cooking my main meal. I'm having rib eye steak with French fries, onion rings garlic mushrooms and English mustard. I'll be having this with a very fine Argentine Malbec. Then its one or two dirty martini's [gin and dry vermouth in the chiller as we speak) and I'll probably stick one of my DVDs on. Then about 11ish I'll have a cheeseboard. I have some excellent Cornish Blue and cheddar and some local relishes (the hot chillie jam is amazing) which I'll be having with a glass or two of LBV port. Then I'll watch a bit of Jools, see in the new year with some champagne, and continue getting pissed watching some of my fave YouTube music videos.

Hope you all have a good one whatever you're up to. Cheers everyone.
Cheers Fred, all the best for 2024. Because I’m a miserable old so and so this will be me

Hi Fred, just had lamb leg in red wine and rosemary gravy with mash and a lovely sticky toffee cheesecake all courtesy of mr Marks and Spencer as couldn’t be bothered cooking tonight. Son and wife have just left to have their own quiet new year at home. Got a bottle of Prosecco rose all to myself and some crisps and chocs to graze on whilst half watching James Bond (can’t deprive husband of James Bond). Not very gourmet but tasty nevertheless . Enjoy your spingo ale, that last post sparked a lot of reminiscing about Cornish holidays (of which there have been many). My husband’s family were Cornish before they moved to Liverpool in the mid 1800s.
Enjoy your feast and your music and all the best for 2024.

All the best Val. I would have watched James Bond if I hadn't watched it a couple of weeks ago.

Your hubby would probably still be accepted as a local down here. Such is the way it works. Does he still have a Cornish surname or is he descended from the female branch.

Yes he is a Peter - if you google Rev Thomas Peter and his brother Hugh you will see why he says he married beneath him😂. We have visited many linked churches, graves and villages- it’s been really fascinating.

Wow. Mylor Church is stunning. Mylor Harbor was a favourite haunt of ours and we couldn't visit without popping into the churchyard. We may even have seen the grave but doubt you could make it out after 500 years.

Peter is not a surname that you would automatically associate with Cornwall though 😀

We visited and found the grave a couple of years ago. I only found all this out during Covid when I started looking into the family tree for something to do. The family comes from Fowey. There is so much history it’s unbelievable, I have done tons of research into it. It absolutely blew our minds tbh. All the years we had gone to Cornwall and never knew.
