Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello everybody. It's freezing here. The heating is on. I've just sorted out our new gas and electricity prices. We've been on a fixed rate since September 2021 and it runs out at the end of this month. I've managed to find one that's only about £20 more per month than our current deal.

I'll be thinking of Karl while I'm watching the match tonight. This thread is a lovely legacy. I like the way people just come in and chat. It's great.

I'm working up to wrapping some more presents - it may take a while!

Have a lovely day all x

Once again I thank Karl for changing more lives than he had fingers and toes .May he rest in peace .Sure we are all sad he passed but as said he would be so proud and I think humbled by this thread .
A thread he started but had no idea the friendships it would bring nor the respect on an otherwise hostile forum at times ,gladly and with thanks to all on here that respect has been one of the shining lights for us along with may I say love and care for each other with true genuineness .
As last year and the one before may I thank you all for being true blues . COYB

Very interesting point AT.

I live in a small village but despite that I suspect that there is Definitely less of a community feel in this country.

Of course you get pockets of it , as Fred has experienced in Cornwall , but generally I'd say that people are more insular and keep themselves to themselves .

Personally I prefer that . Don't know if I'm a typical Englishman but I don't like sharing my emotions / grief with strangers. I see that as a time for family but of course that just my point of view.
Death does seem a more communal experience here as you say. It’s a hard one to judge though as for both of us it is just what you have grown up with and what you know.

I have been to quite a few Wakes were some visitors didn’t really know the deceased and were there instead for the social aspect of it.

It’s good to hear you all remembering Karl, and although I didn’t have the privilege of knowing him, as you say @anjelikaferrett , this forum is a legacy to his memory.
The discussion about community has made me think - I’m no sociologist but it must surely be created and defined by the people and customs/values of the people in it. My husband calls me antisocial (I’m not btw), as he is such a friendly, inclusive, helpful, generous and outgoing person that he seems to create that sense of community wherever he is. We have a dark joke that if I snuff it first he’ll be ok as everyone will be round to help and support him (as we clearly saw when he had his life threatening illnesses). Whereas if he goes first I’m stuffed šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. I think some people need others and some are ok without, both situations being fine.
We saw a clear sense of community when we had a house fire a few years ago. All the ladies in the road came rushing out when the firemen arrived - in their best dressing gowns and a bit of make up even though it was about midnight šŸ˜‚

Hi folks hope all are well, Karl was a great bloke had some good conversations with him , he certainly left a legacy,

On another note

A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. The manger came out and asks them to disperse. ā€œBut why?" they asked. ā€œBecause," he said, "I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer."
