The Sarah Everard vigil, yet somehow....

No further action required? I appreciate the country has waited with baited breath for johnson to get his comeuppance but why have the fuzz gotten off so lightly?

The Police Federation, which represents rank and file officers, called the changes "a return to kangaroo courts".

Quite the day for law yesterday...

That is what it is - currently, misconduct boards can (and regularly do) dismiss people for gross misconduct, based on the circumstances in the case.

What this does is say that the board no longer assesses the punishment based on the circumstances of the case, the board issues punishment solely based on the finding of guilt.

It is manifestly unfair, especially as none of the recent outrages involved a misconduct board giving the “wrong” decision- they just want to be able to say they’ve kicked out % more cops therefore they’ve dealt with this problem.

I think it's a reaction to the seeming air of untouchableness (as if thats a word) where a uniform is a means around the law.

Complaints made and pals turning up to take them to their (the supposed investigating officers) home, not book them, not report it - this attitude has to end. That the union is crying kangaroo court instantly seems to me like resistance to change, as they prefer the ways they've behaved in the good old days.

"institutionally racist, misogynist, homophobic and corrupt" - It's their show, clean it up or ship it out!

That is just a load of chaff put up though to justify this sort of thing, though. You are meant to think this is a measure intended to prevent the next Couzens or Carrick. It will do nothing in that regard.

People who get to a gross misconduct board have been investigated and the police think they are guilty and should be removed (hence the board). As I said above they already boot out people with regularity based on what they’ve actually done; if there was any part of the system that actually worked it was this.
