Really hoping Dyche understands that these games are very important for laying the tactical foundations of the team. Lampard didn’t and predictably we started the season woefully off the pace of the serious teams.
Yes because 22 players potentially being on the pitch for us today helps prepare tactically for competitive games when thats not possible.

Lampard did and then his number 9 broke down a few weeks before the season.

Best laid plans and all that.

But anybody who thinks preseason is anything other than a run out for fitness is mental.

Lampard shifted between multiple systems like a complete amateur and then ended up having no clue when the season started.

You’re never going to make more progress than at the part of the year where it’s all practice. These few weeks are crucial.

Fwiw I said this last year too and everyone assured me that Lampard screwing it up didn’t actually matter. It does matter. And treating it like “just fitness” is an awful attitude. Maybe sides that know how to play football can do that. We can’t.

The players train 5 days a week, for 3 or 4 hours, but sure, a 90minute game in which 12 subs are made by both teams is the place to work on tactics.

Mental.
Training isn’t a match. Football is a sport where the match is just far different from what training looks like because of the fitness elements that you can’t recreate every day in training. Even 45 minutes is a different environment to a day of training. These matter.

Not gonna argue that Lampard didnt have a plan, I will give Dyche credit and assume he does, but that plan will be worked on all week, with tactic boards drills on the training pitches.

And now you have a chance to work on it in a real game. He needs to.

And 45minutes against some random Swiss team half arsing around the pitch, tells you nothing regarding 45minutes against a Premier League team.

I get what you are saying, but there is a real chance that in 5 weeks, when the real football starts, that we have at least 2 or 3 new players.
Then the other 8 should be fully aware of what they are supposed to do and ready to perform.
