The arming teachers suggestion has always been one of the more stupid suggestions the gun nuts put out there to me.
I think I may have mentioned it before in this thread, but the logistics of that idea are completely unworkable (as you’d expect)

The thought that you could give 60yo Mrs. Mabel, the history teacher a handgun and expect her to go head to go head to head with a kid with a semi automatic rifle is utterly ludicrous.
Then the responding police also have to deal with another armed person on site, massive potential for misidentification there.

Are they expected to go on full tactical close quarters weapon training as well?
Most teachers take up the profession to be a part of the ‘noble profession’, to do something positive for kids and young people, not join a paramilitary organisation ffs.

The whole thing is so sickeningly selfish.

The whole proposal is madness. Far more likely that the teacher leaves the gun unattended.

Or they can be overpowered by one/more students in a surprise attack and then the gun used on them. Or they feel under threat and shoot their own students.

Plus it just makes teachers more likely to be targeted first by an actual shooter. The profession already pays pretty poorly. Who’s going to sign up for **** pay, all the headaches already associated with the job, PLUS knowing you’re the first target to be eliminated if a maniac with a gun ever enters the school?

And the legal liability if you make a mistake when shooting (you aim for the shooter but kill an innocent kid in the cross fire) plus @LostLegend’s point that when the cops come there could well be a “friendly fire” incident.

So…long story short, this isn’t a problem we can (or should be trying to) shoot our way out of.

Who knows what their policies are, but I would hope they wouldn't allow it.

the thought of justifying it by claims of shoplifting.

If having three Presidents shot, two fatally (in the 20th century alone), and hundreds of primary school children mown down each year doesn't show the need for gun control, nothing will.
