In other news re Newcastle….. is it a co-incidence that Gordon isn’t in the squad this last week considering the Cheltenham festival is on!???

Just saying…

There is no doubt that VAR is now just a tool for the football authorities to control the narrative.

Given the money in the game, the incentive is definitely there for nefarious practice. I am not saying this is what is actively happening in every VAR booth - it isn't. But given the ludicrousness of VAR since its introduction, I have no doubt that FIFA, at the very least, see it as a tool for "drama" and "suspense".

I find that I can no longer spontaneously cheer a goal now as I fear it will be immediately subject to a VAR check and I will be subject to impotent fury and disappointment. A passion killer.
Exactly - a game like this, with a team going for CL and one battling relegation, this result is worth potentially tens of millions to each club, not to mention the billions probably riding on this on global betting markets. And you have decisions being made on a basis no-one really understands by people you can't see, and even if there is no corruption whatsoever it leaves it so much more open to that suspicion.

It shouldn't be interfering with that goal, it shouldn't have interfered with Gray's goal last Saturday, it should at most be interfering on very narrow and strictly defined grounds, where a decision is objectively wrong, or where the referee himself asks for the assistance. It was supposed to help matches but right now it feels like it's controlling them.
