.…did we have £1.8m budget or was that what the Obnoxious One thought he could be clever & spend?

It seems from that podcast (Bobble apparently works in the finance section of the club), monies were available but Benitez felt the deals were not good value.
How is this possible? We were at the fringe of violating ffp. Can’t imagine us spending 30m on Diaz.

They are...the only but in here is that if they get relegated it could mean curtains for the football club. They are at the limit of ffp and they are gambling big time on staying up. However I think they'll be fine as you could quite easily find 3 worst squads/teams in the league, us being one of them.
They've got sellable assets.

Neves is going in the summer, he'll fetch £30m at least. Matheus will get a fee in, as would Cunha (even if they sold for half of what they'd have to pay Atleti).

They could sell Sa easily enough, he's a good GK.

But yes they should have more than enough to get out of it, now.

The one at Liverpool, some clowns think we could of bought him last season, intentionally forgetting how much he cost Liverpool and what we had to spend
Had a medical ready to go for him as he was on international duty. So it's very much not 'some clowns'. Just like we also had Dumfries all but done until Benitez said no, after Benitez had also said no to Livramento. They were his calls ultimately, whether right or wrong, but there was some budget.

The deal with Porto hinged on James. It didn't happen, life goes on.

We also had more of a budget to spend than £1.8m. We didn't magic up the £30m we spent on Patterson and Myko in December 2021, and we didn't have any guarantee of recouping that until Digne went in mid-January, and they got £22m for him.

At the very least there was some form of budget late in the summer 2021 window. Everton bid £8m for Patterson and got turned down (that was well reported at the time).

Two scenarios we win tomorrow Lamps gets a few of his players. We lose he's gone and does Moshiri panic? Can he afford for us to go down?

I think Diaz was who we were gonna go for of we lost Richarlison.

Think it was more to do with James going.

Think the reported fee was £27m with James going there. He was on £200kpw so if the deal was say £10m upfront we would of only needed £5m to put up ourselves and the rest would of come from the saved wages from James.

In theory anyway.

I'm putting all my hopes that we're lining up moffi, kean holgate decoure Davies all going.
Bring in Felipe as cover, moffi and elanga. I think that's the best we can hope
