January Transfer Window 2023

Amidst all the usual abuse, very natural doubts and concern directed at the Everton hierarchy concerning a perceived lack of activity on the transfer front, I think it is not unreasonable to consider that there were and still are real obstacles to adding new players as quickly as we would like. Not knowing the targets and the obstacles doesn't help us, but I imagine the board members would have been delighted to have been able to provide the manager with 2 or 3 significant improvements by last Monday. Suggestions that they are not bothered or are not even trying are rubbish.

Regardless of some interesting links I just keep looking at the rest of the division and seeing far more intelligence in the market. Carlos Alcaraz to Southampton for 12 million is the kind of bet this club should similarly be vying for. Why we haven't looked abroad for lower totals but for more targets is beyond me.

In the same token it seems half the league is linked with Moffi deservedly. If we win out on that sweepstakes or veer if the price becomes too high fair enough. But I do get the sense under Thelwell, he has zeroed in targets and less a dossier of a profile with multiple names compared to some of these other clubs. I get the sense we will either pay too much compared to counterparts or miss out on names with no alternatives.

Not disputing the final point

The rest of it though is a bit unfair - We need players who will improve us and yet we have no money to get them in. We rely on loans. A team loaning us a player will be dependent on the finances (again, a problem) and whether the loaning team can afford to let them leave on loan

How many players do you suppose are around who will improve us and are available on loan at a price we can afford? I suspect not many - and we'll have competition for those few players and on top of that their availability on loan may be contingent on the loaning team ensuring they have adequate cover first. If you're United, for example, the last thing you want to do is let Elanga leave on loan now and then get a couple of injures to Antony and Sancho or whoever. It makes sense for the loaning clubs to agree these deals later in the window
Danjuma would improve us. We clearly like him. He's clearly available on loan. Do all you can to get that loan lined up and done in the first week.

It's really not impossible.

I appreciate stuff is hard, but that's why they get paid a lot of money.

We're recruiting a head of recruitment, by the looks, from within the club. What exactly is the point? No outside thinking, little improvement. Sick of making excuses for people, it's not good enough.

Mate in those sentences you're saying we're not skint but yet we are yet we can still do business (but if that business isn't good level players that cost big dough then the DOF is a fraud... see Maupay).

Not one single supporter has a clue whats going on in terms of the funds/FFP rules.

Whilst we all want to see incoming signings pretending the DOF is just sitting off whilst he has a pot of dough to spend is ludicrous.

A lot of angry fans posting illogical guff at present time.

As someone mentioned on here yesterday, for all we know investment/a sale may be going on in the background which is potentially why Moshiri isnt paying off the underperforming manager or spending money on players.

We just do not know.

I'm not asking for money that isn't there to be spent.

Everton knew their financial situation in September. They also knew what the squad needed in September.

That means you spend that four months getting as ready as you can, working on the deals that you can with whatever budget is there and available, so you are ready to go in January.

We're two weeks into the month and not close to anything when the squad is desperately short of goals and creativity and in a worse position than last year, when we signed two very raw (poor) full-backs before the window opened.
