Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning all, was hoping to go for a walk this morning however the rain has arrived and knocked that idea on the head. Have to pop to the shops at some stage as despite shopping for England during December we seem to be running out of food! No plans for tomorrow, I don’t like NYE, never have but the feeling has got worse as I’ve got older, it saddens me to think that with the turning of the year l am leaving lost loved ones even further behind. My Mum always came first footing even into her late eighties. She lived a ten minute walk away and insisted on walking round with my brother despite her advancing years. She would wait until midnight, come in, watch the fireworks on TV then go home. No reason for us to stay up now so I’ll be tucked up in bed trying to sleep through the industrial strength fireworks. Have a good day, all.?

Morning everyone.
RIP Pele the greatest player to ever play football. I was so lucky as a 12 year old to see him play live when in 1973 Santos had a European tour and played a friendly at Plymouth.
Not seen @Barnfred 55 on here for a few days , hope you are recovering from the excess mate .
After 4 days of drinking , eating and no exercise I felt horribly bloated and out of shape. Interestingly when I went back to the gym on 27th I weighed exactly the same as normal but just didn't feel right. 3 big sessions and I feel so much better. Another gym visit today.
NYE will follow our recent tradition, a Chinese lunch and then a bit of party food and vino and Jools Holland's Hootenanny. I will have a modest drink with my New Years Day lunch but that will be it for the rest of January.
Very windy and rainy later so think I will catch up on the house work and listen to some music and basically avoid any Everton chat , there's enough depressing news flying around.
I'm OK thanks mate. Think I've just got the post Christmas blues. Combination of 48 hour hangover, 3 days racing without a winner, the crap weather, and of course Everton doing what Everton do best. Just haven't felt like posting tbh.

But hey it's Friday and it's nearly 5 o'clock. I'll no doubt perk up in a mo. ;)

Weather down here/there has been awful for nearly 3 days hasnt it? It hasnt lightened my festive mood, although I did have a lovely Christmas lunch with Mum in her lovely apartment. And yesterday me and Sis visited her with her 2, and my youngest. They have never seen the place, (Its brill, @LinekersLegs ), and it was magic to spend some quality time with who are now young adults, and lovely young folk.

NYE tomorrow is a day/evening I can certainly do without, so have decided to have a rump steak, chips, mushrooms and peppercorn sauce to take me mind off stuff.

I can do anniversaries of certain dates easily. But NYE still holds a dread for me. Maybe the Blues will give us all sommet to cheer though. (Yeah, I know)

So glad that your Mum got that beautiful place and that, even in bad weather, it is working out for her.

As ever will be thinking of you at New Year Eve, hugs x

Hi everybody. @roydo and @Barnfred 55 sending special good wishes to you both. Tough times x

@Gwladysover I know what you mean about NYE. I was never a fan even when I was young and in peak going out mode. Always thought that I was in the wrong place - it never lived up to the hype. My Nan, who was very proud of being Scottish, in spite of moving to Liverpool as a baby always had a NYE party, she loved it. We used to go as kids - weren't allowed to touch the buffet until after midnight. She would go out and first foot with a lump of coal and her St Martin de Porres statue ( I think he, being black, stood in as the tall dark stranger!) The father of one of my childhood friends and close neighbours also loved NYE. He too would throw a huge party for the neighbours and friends. My Mum and Dad would often attend after they had been to my Nan and Grandad's, It was not uncommon to see kids in our very quiet cul-de-sac playing out in their pyjamas while the parents slept off hangovers! Sadly my friend's Dad took his own life when my friend was 18. I think of him and my Nan every NYE with a strange mixture of fond remembrance and also sadness. And, as you get older, I also think it is a stark reminder of your own mortality.

God, that was depressing. Sorry! We'll probably get a takeaway see the New Year in and go to bed. Daughter is home with us - her boyfriend has his 6 year old son with him this week so he won't be out. Although she has been googling good luck traditions. It appears that we will have to sit under a table at midnight and eat 12 green grapes each to ensure good luck for the year. She said it is Spanish. Looking forward to that! I have gallons of Baileys to get through so might make a start tonight - or just drink all day tomorrow to numb the inevitable Everton pain!

Yeah, I'm on my own tomorrow too Mark. But I'll be celebrating as if Cal was with me, which In a way she is. Food wise I have some Asian party finger food in the freezer which I'll have around 6. Then I have some nice Cornish Blue cheese and some local duck pate (not cheap) which I'll have for supper.

Alcohol wise I fancy some cocktails, maybe a martini or Margarita, and no doubt a glass or ftwo of red wine. And I'll be opening a bottle of bubbly to let the new year in.

I'll no doubt regret the excesses for a few days afterwards, but it's onlyone night.

She deffo is mate. You know it.

Nik and I were never great NYE folk. Sure, we had some fantastic nights down the pub, but it was always Christmas Day that we celebrated. Just got wellied on some NYE's!

But to me, funeral dates, day of death, are all important. But you can kinda prepare for that, if you are lucky. But NYE 2019 at 8.00pm was the moment my phone buzzed and I was asked/told, to get the hospital pdq. 2 hours after visiting her there and being told she would be home on the 2nd Jan.

She was given 20 minutes. That clumisly explains why that date is one that resonates with me just as much as any other. In fact, more so.

Kin Derek Downer. Soz!
