Who should replace Frank Lampard?

Yes, that's all we have on offer...but even that agricultural approach only works with a forward who can win headers and chase down the ball in the channels.

We are literally HOPELESS at this point in time.

Yes we obviously need to sign a forward, but going after realistic, serviceable number 9 target men is our best bet. We aren't signing a top centre forward so we need to sign someone for a specific direct style of play, ideally 2 forwards as well.

We need two in. This is a team without strikers. Forget Maupay and Calvert-Lewin. They aren't impacting this season.

With two adequate strikers in we survive comfortably; get one in and it'll be a close run thing; get none in and we're down.

These are the simple truths we all need to acknowledge and face.

While I can see the entertainment value in speculating on who should replace Frank Lampard I think the questions we should be asking ourselves is Who would take over Everton Football Club? What difference is that person going to make given the players he has at his disposal? Do you trust the decision makers at the club to appoint a manager given their track record of appointing managers? Is paying the compensation to FL and his staff and money involved in bringing in a new management team the best way to spend what little we have?
To say we are in the last chance saloon is a bit mellow dramatic given the last chance saloon appears to be our place of permanent residence these days but we surely must be running out of time and luck, the relegation trap door will eventually snare us unless we do something significant, that is not swapping one mediocre manager for another but may be swapping the current Board who have presided over our fall from grace for one that knows how to run a club just might be. I believe we will not improve unless the current hierarchy within the club is replaced in its entirety.

Agree with all of that but as we all know sacking the manager is the easy option

It is the easy option, it also gives coverage to the current Board, divert the blame and give the pretence that you are doing something to fix things. If any of them had the future of the club at heart they would resign

The idea that Lampard is so good that he's getting the best out of our players isn't in line with reality imo. The team is all over the place and doesn't have a clue how to operate in the opposition half. A good manager could improve on this, and more importantly is probably better placed to conduct transfer dealings this January. Lampard's record with transfers is woeful, and I simply can't believe that we are going to give him yet more money to waste.

I don’t disagree with what you are saying, I don’t think Lampard is the manager who is going to lead us back to Europe, I am not sure he isn’t getting as much as he can out of the players. If you look at our recent history we have had quite a selection of managers and none of them have been able to get a lot out of the players on a regular basis. We don’t carry a goal threat, teams can really play with freedom against us as we can’t punish them. As for FL transfer money, again looking at our recent history we have been wasting money for years, long before FL arrived at Goodison. More to the point surely buying players is what Kevin Thelwell gets paid for.
I am not against sacking the manager when things are going badly and he is at fault. I am concerned that the fault is not all his and sacking him won’t change things but will waste more money. I can’t see good managers lining up to take us on, we are a basket case of a club, the Board have overseen a complete shambles. The only manager we will attract is a failure looking for a payday until he gets sacked when he can’t turn things around working for the Board and Owner currently running the club.
If Everton’s problem could be fixed by a change of manager we would have fixed it two or three managers ago. FL is a symptom of the problem, he is not the problem. The longer we allow the problem to treat the symptoms without speaking out the longer and deeper our slump will be.

Few of these are credible options

I can’t see why we’d want someone with Postecoglu’s credentials - lower quality experience than any recent manager appointed

I doubt Pochettino would want to join

Dyche would be no better than Frank

Moyes could be an interesting option with West Ham also in a poor position

The best option would seem to be to stick with Lampard for the long term - even if relegated - and rebuild the club over time

The main issue is not having a striker - more so than the manager

Stand by for incoming.
