Quarter Finals

I'm gonna sound like a bitter, but I still don't think Messi had stood out this tournament. Yes he's had moments of quality which is why he's in the team, but he doesn't stamp him authority on a game - his workrate isn't great (understandable of course given his years) and a lot of the games just pass him by.

Yeah, superb pass for the goal, but I wouldn't say he's lifted the game other than that.

People still banging the drum that Messi's the best player of all time.

Ha Ha Ha.

FFS that's amazing.

Couldn't lace this feller's boots.

Shades of The killer pass in the 86 final from Messi there, just shades mind, we’re still in the quarters

I think that's a cover for deep insecurity, personally. It's not enough to win. They're expected to blast teams off the face of the planet, the way Pele's sides did.

Ronaldo is the only player they have produced since who managed to stand up to playing in that kind of a shadow. As insane as it may sound, he holds the record for goals scored by a player that lifted the trophy in that tournament. The only question is whether scoring every goal in the semifinal and final is more impressive than Maradona single-handedly hauling Argentina into the final in the preceding two rounds.
Yep, I agree with that

So aside from his 1 in a million pass for the only chance in the game, which led to the only goal in the game, he hasn’t done enough, right?
