The Oldies Thread

…lovely around there, Broadway is a favourite village of mine.
It is, some great walks, especially up on Cleeve Hill - although can’t even see the Hills today becauase of the fog!
Broadway is nice, gets very touristy during the summer, Alan Brazil & co stay in Broadway during Festival week!

Does anyone remember the local Catholic priest randomly turning up at your house for a cup of tea ?
Just getting to this. I recall the priest showing up on Mondays at my catholic primary school and going into each classroom. He would check our hands were clean, fingernails unbitten and ask if we went to mass on Sunday, moving down the parade line of all the kids.

….there’s a story in our family history that my great grandfather threw the local priest down the front steps of their house (situated near the entrance to the new Royal Hospital).

it’s a long time ago, I reckon around 1900, 2nd generation from Irish stock. Word has it the Priest called in and called the newest of their 7 kids a ‘bar steward’ because he wasn’t yet christened. Cornelius was only a little fella but apparently the Priests feet never touched the floor flying down 3 flights.

No idea if he ever called around again for a cuppa.
