Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hi guys , hope you don't mind me posting this but it was a very sombre day at work yesterday once the news got round of our friend's untimely and sudden passing. Even working from home you could feel how sad people were. He was a force of nature, larger than life, referred to me affectionately as Trotsky and I'm sad I will no longer hearr his Yorkshire tones joining a video meeting with words ' Ey up, the eye candy's here'

This is my best memory of him. It is also legendary in our workplace

He was the instigator of Donny and Marie coming to live with us. He told me a sad story about two abandoned lambs that just needed a nice home and before you know it they were in our back garden, eating hay and writing their memoirs. ( I created their own Facebook page for them)

One day I noticed a lump on Donny's tummy. I was concerned. It looked like a large blackberry. Donny seemed unconcerned and let me touch it. I took a picture of it and sent it to Chris, who by this time was a Grade 7, with a message ' Should I be worried' No reply.

Arrive in work the next morning. I'm summoned to his desk. He was almost paralysed with mirth. He wiped the tears from his eyes and managed to articulate the words ' It's his cock you daft cow!' Still almost crying with laughter he showed the picture to our Grade 6 sitting next to him. Her reaction, because she was from a farming family, was similar - howls of laughter. Shortly after I had returned to my desk our big boss comes to see me. OMG, Angela,
Chris has just told me about the sheep. Ive never laughed so much. It was only later that I realised that I had sent my first ( and to date only) d*ck pic, of a sheep, to a Grade 7, in work!
He never let me forget it.
So sad to read of your friends’ passing, he sounds like a thoroughly top bloke.

Morning all from Riyadh ….. the joy here in the Hotel is contagious … politically it’s a cRap nation but the man And woman (yes really ) on the street is generally a kind and warm personality so without going into international politics the city is BUZZING that they beat Argentina and so am I…. That win really kicks off the World Cup for me
Now I’ve got to go shopping before I start coaching tomorrow….. my suit appears to be in my suitcase less the trousers !!!! These are the tales of Single man packing 3 hours before departure … it’s a thing !

In the somewhat over-sanitised PC modern offices, a character like him is sorely needed.

Spot on. I read a quote somewhere that I felt was very pertinent: for a generation that grew up watching the likes of South Park, Family Guy and whatnot...

... where has this over-sanitised and sensitive culture appeared from?

When I did work in a large office of over 100 people, I was friendly with 99% of them but would only be myself with about 4 of them. I personally found a culture among some that they were practically married to the place and only those doing the longest hours would be respected. Not the sort of environment to reveal your inner self really which was mad as we were drowning in equality and respect memos daily lol
