Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all it seems this fuel problem will cause some to struggle ,I don't pay the bills as that is part of the wifes spend but I have noticed the cost of everydfay groceries rising but luckily not baked beans:).Our normal Saturday breakfast well for me includes beans but bacon has gone up in Lidl from 3€ to 4€ for the triple pack which although it wont break me is quite a percentage.
I hope all slept well to the sound of rain on their windows and have a drier day today .COYB

My day has been made already. On my morning walk I got to see the International Space Station for about 3 minutes as it passed over me.

Awe inspiring that there are people way up there being seen by people like me way down here ?
I have never seen it and Mr google says the next opportunity for me is the 19th but it is only 11°above the horizon .I will try to see it as we have quite a low hinderance from trees in that direction.thanks

Easy to pick out as it is like a moving planet. Very very bright.

Good luck spotting it, hope weather conditions permit.

We have underfloor heating and it took a day to get up to temp after the guy fixed the outside sensor ( the heating pump works on the difference between inside and out) it is water pipes running through the concrete so a bit like a storage heater in that is is slow to resond to changes . Our eleccy bill is around 400€ per month now from 100€ before ,no gas out in the sticks .
Is it using an air source heat pump? This type of system won't get a water temperature as high or as quickly as a gas boiler system, so consistency is key.

This may be similar to @Barnfred 55 's system, where being on most of the time means you don't get a long lag in activation and reaching temperature.

About three years back it passed over here on Christmas Eve about seven in the evening. The kids all thought it was Father Christmas on his way. It was really lovely to hear the shouts and screams of excitement, the magic of childhood.?

I think we all find our childhood again at Christmas. Well I certainly do!

Sounds similar Phil. I know mine consists of water pipes buried beneath concrete and it takes approximately 24 hours to get up to speed. The boiler is in the garage but the mechanics are outside in the back, and i know there are two fans involved because they kept breaking down before being replaced at the start of this year.

Edit. The makers are Daikin (I know Blue would want to investigate ;))

It’s an air source heat pump that warms a tank, probably with an immersion heater to boost the water as and required - e.g. hot water tap.

It’s likely why yours will always need to be on as the temperature is consistent but won’t reach the height that a gas/oil boiler will produce.

It's meant to be energy efficient.
They are, well meant to be. It does, to an extent, rely on electricity being affordable, and the cost of installing can be prohibitive unless it’s a new build.

You would struggle to run radiators off them alone, hence the need for underfloor and probably dual radiators (whatever their actual name is).

No it is heating from the ground like a fridge in reverse.

Yes I did and they are from the air ,we have one that we use as an air conditioning unit if needed in the summer but the underfloor is from this :-1666705018621.webp
