Preston Manager Paul Heckingbottom Hopes for Harrison Armstrong Return Before End of January Window

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom is looking to re-sign Harrison Armstrong on loan this month.

Armstrong moved to Deepdale on a season-long loan last summer, impressing during his spell in Lancashire.

However, the teenager was recalled by the Blues a fortnight ago. Indeed, Moyes has seen his squad numbers dwindle with injuries, suspensions and players away on international duty.

However, with some senior figures set to return before the end of the window, the 18-year-old may return to Preston before the deadline.

It’s a possibility Preston coach Paul Heckingbottom is hoping for.

“I’m preparing for him to come back,” Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“It’s not down to me. You hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

“If something happens with Harrison and he doesn’t come back, we need to fill that one [spot in the squad].”

CLUB MUST DO WHAT’S BEST FOR ARMSTRONG’S LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT

Armstrong has been in impressive form for the Championship side this season, with Heckingbottom speaking very highly of him.

Despite disappointing results, the 18-year-old’s performances against Wolves and Sunderland were a cause for optimism in otherwise frustrating displays.

However, the youngster may see playing time limited once senior players are available once more.

A return to Preston to continue his development could be an outcome that suits all parties.

Jack Grealish returns this weekend after his one-match suspension. Meanwhile, Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye will be welcomed back next week.

The pair will play in the Africa Cup of Nations final as Senegal take on Morocco on Sunday.

Tim Iroegbunam, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Charley Alcaraz all remain unavailable however, as Moyes confirmed today.

It’ll be interesting to see how the club handles this one. It’ll likely depend on how quickly our absent squad members return to fitness.

If he’s going to play, then we may as well integrate into the squad. However, if he’s going to keep the bench warm for the next five months, he should return to Deepdale.
