Played for Both – Everton V Arsenal

5. Theo Walcott

Brought in by Allardyce in January 2018, the one-time teenage superstar was past his best by the time he arrived at Goodison.

An assist on his debut, followed by a brace in a 2-1 win against Leicester was a promising start.

The winger scored 10 goals in 77 games for the Blues. Probably best remembered for the last minute winner at Vicarage Road in a 3-2 win.

4. Alex Iwobi

It was hard not to be underwhelmed by Iwobi for the vast majority of his time at Everton.

The Nigerian was a prime example of the misspent Moshiri money and never truly felt settled at Everton.

He did enjoy a purple patch during the latter half of the 2022/23 season, picking up the Players’ Player of the Season after providing 8 assists.

Best remembered for that goal against Newcastle.

3. Richard Wright

He showed a lot of promise at one time, old Wrighty. His debut for Everton really set the tone for his time at the club though.

The Blues splashed an initial £3.5m on the England international, but a calamitous error on his debut handed Les Ferdinand a goal in a 2-2 draw with Spurs.

Things never improved much after that and a series of unfortunate events led to Moyes bringing in Nigel Martyn, so all’s well that ends well.

Best remembered for falling out of his loft on Friday the 13th, injuring his shoulder.

2. Francis Jeffers

I hated Jeffers as a kid. Among the first of many, many Everton players to be an enormous let down.

Couldn’t leave the club quick enough and only came back once things didn’t work out at Highbury.

Unsurprisingly, his loan return to Goodison in 2003 was an utter waste of time. Two goals in 22 appearances, both against Fulham over two separate FA Cup games.

1. Mikel Arteta

He’s still one of my all time favourite Everton players. Always brought a touch of class to that Moyes team, and could be a proper shithouse too.

That Fiorentina goal will always live long in the memory and is one of my greatest Goodison moments.

Nowadays he’s very much a High Performance Podcast manager. He’s in with a shout of winning the league this season though.
