‘Up to the player’: ‘Quality’ Demarai Gray yet to make a decision over summer exit – Romano

Everton forward Demarai Gray is yet to make a decision regarding his future with an offer on the table to leave Goodison Park.

Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab have agreed a deal with the Toffees for the ‘quality’ player, but Gray is yet to commit to the move.

Indeed, journalist Fabrizio Romano says it is now ‘up to the player’ whether or not the deal goes ahead as we approach the final week of the transfer window.

On August 20th, Romano tweeted: “Excl: Al Shabab reach verbal agreement in principle to sign Demarai Gray. Deal only agreed club to club at this stage – as Saudi sources confirm.

Al Shabab will now start talks also on personal terms – up to Demarai’s decision.”

The Journalist has since provided an update this afternoon, confirming that the decision still lies with Gray, stating: “Al Shabab agreed Demarai Gray deal with Everton two days ago, as revealed here.

It’s still up to the player, waiting on his decision/personal terms.”

Demarai Gray could join exodus of PL players moving to the Middle East

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a summer departure since the end of last season, with Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Fulham reportedly interested.

However, the Jamaican international looks most likely to follow the trend of Premier League players moving to the Saudi Pro League, providing he can agree personal terms.

Everton boss Sean Dyche left Demarai Gray on the substitute’s bench for five out of the last 18 games of the 2022/23 Premier League season and it has become clear that he does not fancy the £1.7m player.

Indeed, given that Gray was recruited for such a low fee, the Toffees could make a substantial profit on the 27-year-old.

However, with little more than a week left until the window closes, the club are yet to recruit the much-needed centre-forward, and with Everton yet to score this season, Saturday’s game against Wolves already feels like a must-win.
