Report: Everton now reignite interest in 22-year-old who almost joined for £15m last summer

Everton are set to reignite their interest in Ajax star Mohammed Kudus this summer, though face competition for the Ghanaian’s signature.

Kudus came close to joining the Toffees last summer but the proposed £15m move fell through and the attacker remained at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Since then, the 22-year-old scored 18 goals in 42 games in all competitions for Ajax, with six of those in the Champions League, including one against those across the park.

A total of seven assists were also contributed last season, as if to further exemplify the creative output of the prodigious young talent.

Indeed, Kudus is a player in demand, with Everton among the clubs chasing his signature, alongside Brighton & Hove Albion, who have reportedly made contact with the player’s representatives.

That is according to 90MIN, who report that Manchester United also remain keen on Kudus after launching a failed bid to sign him in the January transfer window.

Kudus would be impressive signing for Everton if they can afford him

The Ghanaian also impressed during last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scoring two goals in three games for his national team, leading to the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and PSG keeping tabs on the player’s progress.

Kudus now looks more likely than ever to end his three-year stay in Amsterdam, though what kind of fee Ajax will be looking for remains unclear.

The young attacker still has two years remaining on his current contract and has had a stellar campaign at both domestic and international level, so do doubt the price tag will reflect Kudus’ progress.

Everton desperately need to add goals and creativity to the team, and a signing like Mohammed Kudus would get Goodison Park onto its feet, but with such competition for his signature, Sean Dyche would do well to attract the 22-year-old to Merseyside.
