Marco Silva Press Conference

Marco Silva spoke to the media ahead of Sunday’s clash with Chelsea at Goodison Park.

On FA charge: “I wasn’t happy with ourselves, with some decisions also. But I was never aggressive or disrespectful. I didn’t use abusive words. I wasn’t happy with two decisions. I was frustrated with the situation. I have not received the answer yet. I am here to respect them, I answered them and I am now waiting.”

On Newcastle: “Overall, the big frustration from last weekend was with ourselves. We played with quality moments in the first half, then we had chances to score a third or fourth at the start of the second half – but we didn’t. We have to react differently. What you can control in one match is our job. Our big frustration has to be with ourselves. When I made that substitution, we decided to put Mina on to control the first ball. But we as a team have to react in a different way. We must do different in that moment”.

On Pickford: “I’m the first one to take all the responsibility. It’s a matter of collective behaviour. Jordan has all my confidence. In some moments everyone is happy with you, then the same people speak not very good things about you”.

On potentially resting Pickford: “We have 23 players, and all of them are under consideration by the coach. Jordan has been our number 1 choice, but I have the same confidence in Maarten and Joao also”.

On Mina: We spend the money we spend on him, because we believe he would be a very good solution for us. He has to adapt. He has to be more consistent”.

On Goodison Atmosphere: “If they can repeat (the derby atmosphere), we would be delighted. Could be the key – quality team we play against, we have to show our quality also. Last weekend was tough for them and they didn’t deserve it.”

Marco Silva also confirmed Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines are fit for Chelsea, but Phil Jagielka has a small issue and Kurt Zouma will miss out due to being ineligible to play against his parent club.
