‘Physically and mentally weak’ Everton

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has had his say on Everton’s struggles in a brutally honest rant about his boyhood club.

The Blues’ abysmal away record has come under massive scrutiny and rightly so, Saturdays Turf Moor turnaround made it five defeats on the bounce on the road, former Liverpool defender Carragher said: “It’s not acceptable for a club like Everton.

“And the finger of blame has to be pointed at that dressing room and the players in there, because that’s under four different managers.

“That dressing room, the quality in it is nowhere near good enough.”

Everton have now won just five of their last 40 away outings, Carragher continued: “I don’t have to watch any of Everton’s away games, I just look at a record like that and straight away I know they must be physically and mentally weak.

“That’s the only reason you can explain a record like that.”

Under-fire boss Sam Allardyce wasn’t safe from criticism either, Carragher has compared his Blues reign to Roy Hodgson’s time at Anfield, he said: “It reminds me of Roy Hodgson at Liverpool, it’s just not the right fit.

“I think there were two jobs for Sam Allardyce. He had to keep Everton up and they were 13th when he came in, five points away from relegation after David Unsworth had won his last game, and now they are maybe six or seven points away so there’s not a dramatic change.

“But I think there was a bigger job for Sam Allardyce in just keeping them up. He said when he came in this was the biggest job he had ever had and there was a chance for him to show he isn’t just a firefighter.

“Can he be Everton’s manager next season and show he’s more than just keeping teams up? At this moment he hasn’t been showing that.

“The problem he has is the supporters didn’t want him when he came in because they saw Sam Allardyce as the manager of Sunderland, Crystal Palace and teams fighting down at the bottom.

“Everton fans see themselves as fighting for European places, so he was always up against it.

“The reason they are not happy with him, I would say, is as much the things he has said after matches, comparing Everton to Newcastle and West Ham hasn’t gone down well.

“Trying to replicate Swansea when they beat Arsenal, and waiting to bring Morgan Schneiderlin on at 0-0 at Watford.”
