Jags: “All a bit of a blur”

Phil Jagielka hopes his wonder-goal in the Merseyside Derby will be a springboard for Everton’s season and admitted the moment was ‘all a bit of a blur’

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Jags said: “It could be an important goal. We’ve not always got the results we’d have liked so far this season. We’d liked to have come away from here with more than a point. But realistically the way the game went, and being one nil down with 90 minutes to go, we have to settle for that.

“It’s a tough week – Liverpool away, away to Russia and then Manchester United away. That’s a big demand on us so the point gives us more confidence.”

“I scored a few half decent goals at Sheffield United but to score in the last minute of a Merseyside derby is something else. It’s extra special.

“I didn’t think too much as I struck it. Just try and keep it down and thankfully it had enough pace to keep it travelling and it didn’t go over the bar so it must have been decent.

“I’d have taken a two yard tap-in to be honest. I’m sure my kids will be happy.

“I’ve kept the shirt and I’ll watch the goal again a few times.

“It’s all a bit of a blur. I’m not normally there to score goals as you can tell from my pathetic celebration.

“No dance moves for me – just running around. I might try one wth my left foot next weekend.”
