Everton 2-1 Wolves

After five defeats in the previous six games, Leighton Baines´s late penalty gave Everton an important, morale boosting win over Wolves, propelling the Club from 17th to 12th in the league.

Everton went into the game without Jack Rodwell who was left out following his exertions for the National side. Phil Neville and Sylvain Distin joined Jack on the sidelines having also not made the matchday squad.

It looked like there could be more doom and gloom in the pubs around Goodison Park following the game when Wolves took the lead on 37 minutes through a Stephen Hunt penalty after Marouane Fellaini was adjudged to have fouled David Edwards just inside the area. Hunt stepped up in front of baying Blue fans and rammed the spot-kick straight down the middle.

But Everton were level 7 minutes later when Phil Jagielka got his head on the end of Baines’ left-wing free-kick arrowed in perfectly for Jags to divert past Hennessey.

Everton continued to dominate much of the second half possession, but found it difficult to penetrate an unadventurous Wolves side.

But on 82 minutes Everton got their just reward and broke Wolves´s resistance when Baines converted from the penalty spot after Stephen Ward was penalised for a push on Louis Saha in the box.
